Teach Soap

I noticed on one of my groups that people are selling this made with the fresh fruit. Just because it looks ok and smells ok doesn't mean that germs, mold and bacteria haven't already taken a hold. Nasties will grow very quickly (sometimes within 24 hours) with any product that contains water or water based ingredients like fresh strawberries. Refrigerating this product won't help much. If this is for sale, a TRUE challenge test should be performed and a proper preservative in a proper % needs to be added. http://www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body- ... t-scrub-2/

I don't know why anyone wouldn't put a preservative in this! fruit gets moldy! Just because the strawberry was fresh and put in the scrub doesn't mean it can't still mold up! People are crazy thinking like that

that just does not look good but I can see why some people thinks it ok because of a certain big company **cough**Lush**cough** does it an is a "natural"( ) company...

Lush has enough money for fines. They get slapped with a fine (and they have), they pay it and carry on. Most homecrafters do not have the financial means to do so. I hate to say this, but I hope that the cottage B&B industry gets regulated. Personally, I would never buy a product like this, but most people off the street don't know any better.

I 100% agree, but what I meant to say was Lush uses quite a bit of preservatives which people think they don't use since they advertise their selves as very natural therefore the people think they don't need to because lush doesn't (while as I said they actually do use them)

I read the recipe and al the comments. Some one suggested that it needed a preservative and Ann Marie from Brambleberry said that "a use by date is better than the false security of a preservative.". What the heck is she thinking??? I am very disappointed in her - she should KNOW BETTER.

You are exactly right, Irena - even strawberry extract has given me nightmares in formulations...bye-bye fruits - hello, common sense!

Bakima, our intern at the time, was so proud of that scrub - and at the time, we were delighted to showcase it for her.

As stated in the comments and in the blog post itself, and in the article, this is a fresh product that is best used quickly. It's no different than what Lush sells in their stores with fresh fruits and veggie purees, Whole Food markets in some of their more upscale 'fresh face' bars etc... It's not a shelf-stable product long term.

Thank you for deleting it. Lush does not tell the truth and hides some of the preservatives in their other ingredients. I have seen Lush products that have grown mold. They have been slapped with fines, which they just pay and carry on. A liability suit for a homecrafter could spell a financial disaster.
