I have a friend who got some goat milk lotion when she was on vacation and she loves it. She asked me if I can make her some. I've been reading about it but everything I read says there is more chance of bacteria or mold growing in it because of the sugars. (BTW, There are so many recipes out on the internet without preservatives listed, yikes!) Does anyone make goat milk lotion and if you use a preservative how long is the shelf life? I usually use phenonip for my regular lotions, but also have germaben plus on hand

I am a bit reluctant to make or sell something with a short shelf life because I worry that folks won't want to waste it so will keep it if it "looks" ok.

Milk has proteins which are difficult to preserve. I would not go above 10% milk and preserve at the maximum amount according to the preservative you use. The only way to know if the preservative is working, is to get the lotion tested. The Sage Script Institute does basic testing for a nominal fee.
