Teach Soap

I made my first batch of lotion a few weeks ago and so far I love, but two people I gave it to so they can try it too complained that it made them feel like the lotion was burning their skin? What do you think it could be? The recipe is from soapqueen, and I used optiphen as the preservative.

Which recipe?

70-80% Distilled Water
3-5% Stearic Acid
3-6% Emulsifying Wax
Add the rest in of your choice of Oils/Butters
.5 – 1% Preservative
.5% Fragrance

OR

1.6 oz Avocado Oil
1.28 oz Rice Bran Oil
1.28 oz BTMS-50
0.96 oz Liquid Glycerin
0.64 oz Stearic Acid
0.64 oz Oat Extract
0.16 oz Buckthorn Extract
3.2 oz Aloe Vera Liquid
21.6 oz Distilled Water
0.64 oz DL Panthenol
0.32 oz Optiphen

OR

18 oz. Distilled Water
1.2 oz. Shea Butter
1.7 oz. Sweet Almond Oil
1 oz. Avocado Oil
1.2 oz. Emulsifying Wax
1 oz. Stearic Acid
.2 oz. Phenonip
.1 oz. Fragrance

The third one

Phenonip is normally used up to 0.5%. According to my calculations, that would be 0.12 oz. It's possible that 0.2 of the Phenonip might be too much. Do you have an accurate scale?

You used optiphen for the preservative? Did you use .2 oz of optiphen? Also, which FO did you use?

Several of my friends and family find that lotion made with optiphen feels like it is burning. Mom tried some on her arms and had to run into the bathroom right away to scrub it off, she got a red itchy rash and felt like her skin was on fire. I used under the max amount of optiphen in that batch. I made the exact same recipe with phenonip and no one has had any issues.
