I'm wondering if anyone has purposely overheated shea butter for a lotion to make it gritty for use as a scrub?

About a month ago, I made a lotion and accidentally added my shea before checking the temp of the oils, and it turns out they were too hot. My batch had a gritty feel when it was done, but I didn't want to throw it away because I had put a lot of good stuff in it, so I put it in a large container for my own use. I actually like using it, it is fine enough to use as a facial scrub, it has an apricot scrub kind of feel, but it eventually all rubs in so you don't even have to rinse it off.

It got me wondering if I should make more that way. Any down sides to it?

If you overheat shea butter, you shorten its shelf life.

How do you tell if it's bad? Will it have an odor? I've been using it for a month and there are no signs that I can see that it's gone bad. I did put a large amount of Vitamin E (T-90) into the recipe, as well as Tea Tree Oil and Neem Oil. Do you think those antioxidants are what might have held it off from going bad?

I find it gets a really strong rancid oil smell.
