Hi There,

I've just started making body lotion and have noticed condensation forming on the lid of my container. I left the mixture to completely cool before I potted the mixture (nearly a whole day). I've wiped the excess moisture off the top but it keeps coming back. I have a added preservative although I've seen in past posts that preservatives aren't found in the water. And I haven't noticed dramatic temperature changes to say if this is the cause (not saying this isn't).

Since previous posts are a few years old regarding this concern I was wondering if anyone has any new ideas which could be causing this?

Would people continue to selling this? or are you meant to leave lotion for a set period before you sell it?

Also, if I make a big batch of lotion should I not cover it with a lid and perhaps look at another option (under a food cover)? How do other people store their lotion and in what condition? :?: :?: :?:

Much appreciated :)

The problem I see with this is that the condensation has no preservative, which might cause germs. mold or bacteria to grow. I make my lotion by the gallon and put the heavy duty plastic bag inside a large container open. I put a paper towel lightly over the top til the lotion cools off in the fridge.

Actually I've just realised I'm looking at the dates that people have joined the forum  So forgive me if the previous posts were recent.

Irena, once your lotion cools off do you keep this in the fridge (for storage) or do you package all your lotion into the pots / bottles straight away and in order to sell them?

I snip off the corner, then squeeze the lotion into bottles. Yes, it's fragranced. The snip in the corner needs to be fairly small, so as you squeeze the bag, it goes directly into the bottle.

I bottle mine then cover the individual bottles with a paper towel held on with a rubber band for about a day. I havent had mine tested since I am not selling them yet but I have noticed no ickys yet and I have some that is several months old.

You could try putting safety seals on the containers of lotion, and check one in a day or two to see if there is condensation on that too. Would offer a little insulation between the lotion and the lid which might help.

I pour my lotion into bottles while it is still warm and fluid, cover the bottles with paper towel until they are completely cooled, then cap them.

I have some lotion here that I made around a year ago, and it still tests microbe free with the home test kits. I only have maybe 3/4 of a bottle left, but it is great to see that my preservative is doing its job!

Oh, I definitely meant after it was room temperature! The OP said the condensation was forming on caps of already cooled lotion, I was just adding that the seals may provide some insulation and that that may help
