When using two different products to create a unique product how does labelling work.

I know i have to list everything.

example:

foaming bath butter:

Distilled Water, Glycerin, Sorbitol, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Disodium Lauryl Sulfosuccinate, Sodium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Tetrasodium EDTA.

and

glycerin soap base:
Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Safflower Oil, Glycerin (vegetable origin), Purified Water, Sodium Hydroxide (saponifying agent), Sorbitol (moisturizer), Sorbitan oleate (emulsifer), Soy bean protein (conditioner).

Would I just list one after another, and remove any ingredient that is repeating itself?

Distilled Water, Glycerin, Sorbitol, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Disodium Lauryl Sulfosuccinate, Sodium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Tetrasodium EDTA, Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Safflower Oil, Sodium Hydroxide (saponifying agent), Sorbitol (moisturizer), Sorbitan oleate (emulsifer), Soy bean protein (conditioner).

all ingredients must be listed in descending order of the amount used. Each of your pre-made products have done that for their part, but in mixing them you will need to figure out the new descending order. I don't see how you can do that with the info you have unless you do a lab test. You would need the % of each ingredient to compare the two lists and see where the ingredients place when combined. Sorry, but I don't think this label will be accurate or legal without lab involvement.

umm ok. so you're saying that those who sell bath salt parfaits, need to have their products tests by the lab. if they combine bath butter with m&p soap base to make a topping?

You can combine the two, but the problem is in labeling since you don't know the exact % of each ingredient.

I am not sure what a bath salt parfait is, but I think it is safe to assume they didn't send off to have it tested. Was their labeling correct and legal? I don't know because I don't know what they added into the base. The bases are meant to make things simpler, but if you get creative and mix anything more than fragrance and color into them, or mix a few together, you have no way of knowing how your new product should be labeled to meet the legal requirements.

YOu can google bath salt sundae's.

it is bath salts in a glass, with a whipped frosting. some even add a soap as decoration on top.

I came across this, as an example:

https://www.facebook.com/naturesgardenc ... 0060076937

I've seen most people listing their ingredients as in Epsom salts, sea salt, glycerine, whipped bath butter, m&p soap, fragrance/ essential oils, and cosmetic grade colourants.

The bath salt sundaes are cute, thanks for the pic. But Irena is right, they are illegal labels. You can find illegal, incorrect labels and products at every craft fair and all over the internet (which is why I really don't peruse the net for b&b products). How they get by with it isn't the point. In fact, you never know if they are still "getting by" with it or not. The point is your ethics and your standards. Doing it right says the right things about you and your business and then you don't ever have to worry about a letter from the FDA coming to you!

Based on the picture it doesn't look like the salts are mixed with the bath foam. If they are still seperate (foam sitting on top of salts) why not just list the two products seperately as you did in your initial post?

First of all, this is NOT my product. It was an example off the internet.

Secondly, it is bath salts at the bottom.

It is the "Whipped Bath Butter" + "M&P soap base" that need to be mixed together.

Yes, I understood that it was an example of something similar, which is why I said "based on the picture". I wasn't sure if yours were made the same way.

If you mix two different things I see how it would be near impossible to label.

Right now I am just doing my research and getting as much information as possible. I am not a seller. Just a hobbyist for now. In the future I would love to sell.

I do not make the bath sundae's with the bath butter and m&p. I would of loved too, but first listing the ingredient is a problem I see, and secondly I found another way I can make them, which I like better, and I can list each ingredient without a problem.

It's just so much fun creating products and using them, it is my addiction! :D
