My first attempt at lip balm didn't work out too well. I wanted to sweeten it with Stevia, so I tried to dissolve the Stevia in one of the oils, but found out it wasn't oil soluble. I tried stirring it for a loooong time but it never dissolved and made my balm a bit gritty. How do you use Stevia in lip balm, do you dissolve it in a bit of water first?

water won't mesh with oil, either. where did you buy it? it might need to be extra fine for lip balm.

Instead of dissolving it in one of your oils, infuse it in the oil.

Sorry, what do you mean by infuse it in the oil? How?

And as to Mellifera's question, I'm embarrassed to admit, it was from a packet that you can use in iced tea or coffee. I didn't know it had to be a different grade of Stevia for balm.

You can buy sweeteners made specifically for use in lip balms. I use the one that Brambleberry sells, and I like it a lot.

Okay, I didn't know you were using the stuff from the store. I thought maybe you were trying to use ground stevia leaf or something. Although, infusing the stuff from the store might work as well.

Here's what I do with my stevia leaf powder. I put my powder in a double boiler and cover it with coconut oil (just use one of the oils you use in your lip balm). I jut put enough oil in there to just cover the powder. Heat on low for 2-4 hours. You may have to change the water, sometimes that happens. Then once it's done, I pour it through a coffee filter into a clean container.

I use a pre-made lip balm base . But here's where I buy mine which works well... nice and sweet but also smooth. BB got the best stuff.

it blends very well and you dont need much. dont know about it infusing though.

I use Bramble Berry's stevia and really like it. It doesn't make the lip balm grainy for me, but I usually go pretty light with it. I find I don't need a whole lot since I only want a very slight sweetness.
