Do not use a plastic cup to measure FO unless you are going to use it absolutely immediately. I set my little plastic dixie cup on the counter. A very few minutes later I notice my recipe is soaking wet. Then I notice that the FO has eaten and separated the bottom of the dixie cup from the sides of the cup. Four ounces of FO everywhere. So now I am using a small glass container. Besides the mess, I don't like wasting 4 ounces of FO. Let's face it -- they aren't cheap.
Almond Biscotti is very strong smelling whereas Island Coconut is not. My kid didn't like either one in the bottle, but thought the soap on the counter smelled wonderful (it was a combo of the two).
Strawberry smells great, but it accelerates and rices. The soap was gelling almost immediately. I did not give it insulation.
Gingersnap behaves nicely and smells wonderful.
Energy smells fabulous and behaves nicely. My little one loved it. Too bad I used it in a batch where I didn't realize I grabbed a bottle of Olive Oil Blend (which looked just like my bottle of olive oil), which had to be tossed. It looked lye heavy and was spongy 2 days later (which is when I discovered my mistake).
Gumballs is okay, but bubblegum is better.
You need to mix your lye into frozen distilled water when it is 115F hot outside. Not so much now that it is only 80 and down to 60 at night. The lye never got hot, so I made sure the oil was. The soap looks pretty but I'm a bit concerned -- although it is too early to tell if there is a problem.
Interestingly enough, my recipe did not create enough soap batch to fill my mold, although I used the same number of ounces in the lye calc as previously for this mold.
Grapeseed Oil and Sunflower Oil created the same numbers on the lye calc for the finished recipe.
If you splash lye water, strip off your pants and throw them in the wash but make sure you take your wallet out of your back pocket first! (Gee, how did I come up with that one???
at myself!)
