Hi everyone,

Just a quick question - I'm dying to make some grapefruit eo soap (I have a really good idea for it in mind), but last time I used an eo (I think it was sweet orange) it faded really quickly. I'm not sure if this is a sweet orange thing, an eo thing, or a citrus thing, but I don't want to waste a load of oil if the smell will fade before it's cured properly.

I read somewhere that you can use things to anchor scents into the soap, but I can't remember what it was that was used. Does anyone know or have any suggestions? And also, how much of it should I use for around a 40oz batch?

Much appreciated!

From what I understand, most citrus EO's tend to fade but you can use litsea cubeba to anchor them. I'm just starting with EOs so this was very helpful to me! Also 10X Orange is stronger then regular orange EOs.

Regular orange will fade in soap. You need 5X or 10X orange. You can also add a very small amount of Vetiver, Litsea or Patchouli for a better staying power.

Is litsea cubeba that may chang essential oil? Or is that something else? Also, I read somewhere about clay anchoring in scents ... is that true or should I just ignore it?

I have also heard of using cornstarch or botanicals to help hold the scent. Have yet to try the cornstarch yet myself but the herbs do help some. You could use oatmeal too.

I read that using Kaolin Clay mixed with your fragrance and then into your soap can help hold it? Can anyone confirm...?

I Koalin Clay in in my soaps but not for that reason, my soaps always hold scents well, like years. I put a tsp or so depending on batch size of orris root powder as I was told when I first started soaping it would hold my scents. Not really sure why they hold, but they do.
