I know - everyone loves it,...but not me!! :o

BB's Oatmeal, Milk and Honey - argghh! yuck!!! Smells just like almond extract to me - it has it's fans, I know, and I hope it sells, but...boy - I guess personal taste is VERY personal! lol

I have used only EOs in my soaps for years; just recently branching out in to FOs - lots of surprises in store for me, it seems!

Then again - I one of the "lavender haters" , too - but I make a lovely Lavender soap and it flies off the shelves!
(which is good - then I don't have to smell it for long!

Oh how strange! I woulda never thought a milk/honey FO would smell like almond extract! I can say I wouldn't really like that one either...

You know, it's funny you bring this up because my sister bought an oatmeal/honey type soap and gave me the label and it still smelled like the FO ... which was NOT "oatmeal and honey" AT ALL to my nose. It was like an 80s type of musk-y fragrance. Nice but NOT oats and honey. LOL.

Have you been able to achieve that natural, faint sweet smell with a milk and honey soap recipe? My milk and honey soap (w/oatmeal & beeswax) actually smells great on its own but it's not a strong smell. Though I might try adding a touch of clove/cinn/cardamom or something like that next time just for fun.

PS: I've been tempted to play with some FOs too but I'm feeling a little puritanical about it. Maybe I'm being lame? Haha. That said, I had this epiphany that one can still make a "99% natural" type of soap using FOs. So the temptation is constantly there, especially with the food-ie types of FOs now on the market which I love. But perhaps not the BB Milk and Honey ;)

somehow, Karri - I knew you'd be the first to chime in!! I can always count on you!!

I have always been a puritan about "natural", as per our earlier discussions, but customers ask for and expect certain things *sigh*..and the way I figure it: if they are going to buy a soap with an FO in it anyway - it might as well be mine!!!

But I am very clear with them, and with my labels, about which soaps are which - my lines include shea butter, cocoa butter, vegan, lard, and a few MPs for particular shapes or specialties - something for everyone.

I make oatmeal for the hubby almost everyday - woulda liked a soap with that smell! lol

I don't have the BB version, but the Oatmeal, Milk, and Honey I have smells like almonds to me, too! I cannot stand it and it makes me gag. I would have sworn I had the wrong thing shipped to me, but then I went to a show and saw a vendor so I smelled theirs, and it was the same smell.

Others that make me gag that people like: Lavender and peppermint cream.

ahhh Renea - a woman after my own heart!!

as I mentioned, - I also hate lavender - to the point of shrink wrapping all my lavender bars so I don't have to smell them!!

And I allergic to peppermint oil - so I use that as an excuse to never make any - so far - spearmint makes a nice sub!

I've tried several OMH FOs from different vendors and they all smell like almond to me, too. WSP's, to me, was the least offensive. But, I'm still checking out other vendors in the hope that one day... :D

Karri, I've made OMH with no FO, just the actual ingredients and it does smell nice. Def not a strong scent by any means, but very soothing!

I'm not crazy about lavender either. It doesn't make me gag or anything, but prefer it when mixed with something else like BBs Lavender & Herb or WSPs Lavender Basil.

I can't use anything with a strong rose smell as it gives me an instant migraine! (thankfully, real roses don't bother me!)

Okay, I do admit to liking Lavender Herb from BB. Is WSP's lavender basil similar to that? I just can't do straight Lavender.

I recently smelled Zum's Rosemary mint and fell in love so I wanted to duplicate the scent but since I couldn't get the right mix with the EOs I have. I thought I would give Nature's Garden's FO a try. Thy claimed it smelled nice and herby just like an EO blend-NOT! I now have soap that smells like Pepto- GROSS! It was so disgusting I had to rebatch it. I added some Rosemary EO to it and it is now bearable but I still have 1/2 a bottle of that crap :(

I just got some rosemary EO in the mail as well as some petitgrain, both which I'm dying to soap with. Some of the EO blends with those I've read about sound incredible! Anyone know usage rates for those? I've also got a wee bottle of cardamom but terrified of wasting it!

WOW! I thought it was just me! I hate the oatmeal milk & honey fragrance. It makes me gag! I thought it would be a no-brainer fragrance, but oh well, back to the drawing board. I also am a lavender hater, not sure why because I love it on the plant.
