High-quality vanilla essential oil is extremely hard to find that I decide to make my own! Soooo, can anyone please tell me how to make pure-blend vanilla essential oil from scratch?

Thank you!
Mica

You can get Vanilla absolute, but it's pricey. Or you can buy vanilla bean pods, scrape away the seeds inside and infuse the pods in olive oil (or jojoba). That process will take at least 3 months.

Yep, no such thing as vanilla essential oil, but some people do refer to vanilla absolute as vanilla eo, I'm not sure why.
Natures Garden Candles has a Vanilla Infusion, but it doesn't hold up in CP soap.

What is the difference between vanilla absolute and vanilla essential oil? How can something be sold as vanilla essential oil if it is not actually essential oil?

Since I am in the process of writing a book on EO's, I thought I'd try a paragraph out on you all.

....In a sense there is no true Vanilla essential oil, in that it is not available as a steam distilled oil due to its delicacy, but there is vanilla that comes as concentrated, and is the essence of the plant. Vanilla is extracted from the perennial, herbaceous, climbing vine, botanically known as Vanilla Planifolia. It can be found as an absolute, as a solvent extracted oleoresin (all oleoresins are solvent extracts), or as the result of a CO2 distillation. The CO2 distillation allows for a pure and natural product, one which is 200 times stronger than the common Vanilla extract used in cooking, and 14 times stronger than the 10-Fold Vanilla extract, which is usually the solvent extracted oleoresin. The CO2 type of extraction is more in line with the strength and the purity of steam distilled EO's. In fact, this type can be almost as expensive as absolutes. Vanilla that is cheap is usually a solvent extracted vanilla or a synthetic, even though it may still be marketed as "pure essential oil'. Good Vanilla will be viscous (thick) and have a strong vanillin presence.

Thanks Irena! I haven't shared any excerpts before now, so that is encouraging!

This is super interesting because I too have been seeing vanilla "eo" being sold as eo when we know there's no such thing!

I (naively) bought a Lavender-Vanilla eo type of thing a while back and it was actually Vanilla Planifolia in the bottle when you read the label (I bought it online). I believe the lavender was real eo but obviously the vanilla was an extract.

Anyhoo, I put it in some lotion bars and the vanilla beaded up in the melted oils (because it's water based I believe so it separates from the oils). I poured the oils "off" the settled out vanilla because I didn't want brown spots in my lotion bars.

Oddly enough the lotion bars turned out perfect and gorgeous and there's a hint of vanilla in the scent still.

Bizarre learning experience that was ;)
