Has any one tried to anchor orange EO with tree tea in CP soap? Did it stick and did you like the combo?

I prefer to anchor with a small amount of Patchouli, Litsea or Vetiver.

Thanks soapbuddy. I did a patch and orange awhile ago so I went down to the soap shelf and smelled it.... not much scent left??? But then I smelled my plain patch soap and no scent. I think my nose is off (hope I'm not getting a cold). But then I smell my pink sugar and champange, wow is that one great. So I decided. I have litsea coming from BB and I will put that in the CP and then add orange to M+P and do a swirl! You did it again, made me think Now I just have to plan the colors.

Have fun! :D It's always nice when another package with FO's gets delivered to my door.

Try using a little clay to anchor the scent.

SB - this was the batch that I messed up the total oil weight on soap calc back in Sept. So it is super sented for 1# of oils I used 0.7oz of orange10x and 0.7 oz patch. This is what I normally would have used for my two # batch. I know that some will go alittle lighter on the patch but it is my favorite so I go to the top of the chart with it. I still think it is my nose.... humidity level in the house is 20%...that may have affected my scense of smell. It is amazing how the receptors in the nose works different for each of us.

yes about the clay... have been looking to get some.... just wish BB carried a pink clay! So that will help to anchor citrus?

It has worked for me. One of my favorite combinations is sweet orange and cedarwood. I use French green clay as an anchor and the scent lingers for months. You may be able to find kaolin clay at the drugstore or Walmart.

I have found that the orangex10 does not need an anchor, as it has been redistilled so many times. I am pretty sure that A.M. also mentioned this as her experience in the BB test batches. Remember that the scent sometimes fades during the creation phase, but then blooms as the soap cures., so your opinion of the scent may change. Also remember that you have to be cautious when adding Eo's, as too much, while it may smell good, can cause skin issues, and additionally, most citrus EO's can cause skin photosensitivity.

lsg - never thought to look at walmart for clays. I'm sure I can find some at my health food store but is always more expensive there. I think I will give this a try. TY

Tammy - The soap was made in Sept... and kept only for my use. They did turn out to be very small bars so only have one left. I do not use EO (except for lavendar) so the orange was purchased on a whim for me. I have seen many interactions between herbals and medications and I have a hard time fitting all the necessary info on the lable now without having to add further warnings. So hence I stay with FO. Thanks for the insite.

Suzie; I understand about small labels and lots of info! I recently read a good many recipes that were using orris root powder. SoapBuddy and I discussed the reasoning behind this, and all we could really figure was maybe for scent anchoring. Since it is used in pot- pourri for that, stands to reason it would work that way in soap too. If you did want to go with another eo, a lot of people use litsea cubeba. Aside from the fact that it works well for anchoring, it is an inexpensive eo to purchase. Good luck :D

I have Orange 10X here and will be making a soap batch with it in the next couple of days. I'll keep you posted.

I made orange(10x) EO soap with a little patchouli, ground orange peel and oatmeal in september. Only made 8 bars thinking if it faded I wouldn't be out too much. I have the last bar in the bathroom now . Sold the rest. It still smells wonderful at 1/2 oz. per lb.or a little bit more plus a little patchouli, to anchor it about 1/4 oz.

If you are using a blend of 3 ounces of fragrance, how much patchouli etc would you use to anchor that amount of fragrance?

I've been using mints for anchors and like this too.
