I am looking for a good coffee type of FO. I had chocolate espresso on order from BB, but just received a note that says it is out of stock and would be until 2/21. I have coffee butter and cocoa butter coming in and I had this yen to make a espresso/latte type soap. Since I have always stuck to EO's and herbs, I have been itching to try a "wild" fragrance and I don't want to wait!!! (Plus it costs so much to ship here from the west coast, I hate to make another order for just this and the other one not in stock)
BUT, I also hate getting a FO from someplace that I don't know, and I found that I am not really wanting to get one from the sites I know either, because I have only purchased EO's from them and they don't give the details about how it performs in soaps that BB offers.

So, please, if you have purchased something like this from another vendor, and it worked well and smelled goo, please let me know!

Thanks :D

If you usually like using herbs, you could always try adding coffee (I use instant coffee when I don't want to use coffee grounds) and cocoa powder.

I saw somewhere that you could do that, but I wasn't sure how it actually worked out. Do you just exchange the coffee for the water? Does it have a strong scent in the finished bar? Do you like it or was it just something you tried to be daring? I know, I am the curious type! Sorry and Thanks!

Adding lye to coffee is very stinky! It will mellow out though.

Turkish Mocha from BB is absolutely fantastic :D Really, REALLY strong, though, at least in M&P & bath products, so start with a light hand...

In terms of other vendors, The Scent Works FOs have been great to work with, & I've had some success (though not as consistent) with Wholesale Supplies Plus. SweetCakes is amazing, but they are very coy about their phthalate usage, so I don't use them unless I absolutely have to.

I make a coffee soap. I substitute coffee for water (yep, smells bad!) and add 1 Tbs. of the used coffee grounds at light trace. This adds exfoliation. If you do this, make sure the grounds are used and not fresh! I made that mistake once, I thought I was going to rub my skin right off!
Coffee is a natural odor absorber, so my male customers love it. Especially if they've been working in the garage or out doing other "stinky" activities.

I also make a chocolate soap using cocoa powder. It turns a lovely shade of brown, dark brown just like chocolate. I never thought of combining the two, however, since my lye just showed up yesterday, I think that's next on my list 8)

Best of luck,
Brandy

Thanks Brandy! I have my lye but am still waiting on the other orders, so looks like no soap this weekend. I am sooooo hating this! But, yes, I am excited to mix the two. This obsession has become my wicked, guilty pleasure.
I was thinking of replacing the coffee for the water, so I am glad to know you do that and also that it smells! Now I won't freak when it happens. I also appreciate knowing about the "used" grounds. I would have added new ones, so you saved me there! :P
I knew that coffee is a natural deodorizer so I have coffee butter on its way, but the coffee EO is just too expensive for me right now, which is why I was looking at FO's. Thanks to other posts I have decided to try the coffee. Between that and the cocoa butter and powder, I think I will get a wickedly indulgent scent. 8) I hope, anyway! Thanks for your advice! And let us see when you make your soap!
