Okay, since you all are very helpful, I was wondering if anyone knows where to get: BALSAM OF PERU EXTRACT?? NOT the Essential Oil, but the one that is very dark, thick & gooie? It kind of resembles the consistency of Molasses.
Thanks, Joanne

It's a resin actually. It's an extract of the bark of the balsam tree. Be careful with it as it can cause skin inflammation, irritation and allergy reaction. It should be brown and very thick.

That's right Ginger, it's a Resin. I couldn't remember that part? Anyway, I know it can be irritating, to the skin, if too much is used in a recipe. But, I have always made this soap "Healing Soap", with 3 medicinal herbs good for psoriasis, excema & dematitis , using the Balsam of Peru Resin as one of the medicinals and have had great success with it. I always put a warning on the packaging and explain the whole thing to people, but they are satisfied with the results and have had no complaints.
So, anyway, do you know who sells this?
Thanks, Joanne

I'm just a very small soap making company with limited amount of customers. I explain to everyone, who is interested, in my Healing Soap, that I am not a dr. or a homeopath. I made this soap for myself, after considerable research, and it works for me! But like with all things "Natural", it could react differently on different people. I make no claims that it will "cure" anything and explain that if there are any adverse effects, while using this soap, to STOP using it immediately and return it to me for a full refund. I have suffered with psoriasis/dermatitis for many, many years!! After spending a fortune on cortisone creams, with absolutely no results, I decided to do some research and found 3 medicinal herbs (including the Balsam of Peru Resin), and did some testing of my own. I hardly ever get any outbreaks these days, but when I do, I immediately later up 2-3 times a day, rinse & let air dry and you wouldn't believe how quickly my problem goes away. I make 24lb. batches of soap and don't even use 2 oz.'s of Balsam of Peru Resin to the whole batch (along with the other two herbs). I have been making and selling this soap for years and have had nothing but positive feedback! Not one complaint, not one adverse effect, not one returned bar. Believe me, I know that Balsam of Peru Resin is a very strong ingredient, but when used responsibly it can have a great benefit on certain skin irritations!! Maybe this is why I'm having a hard time finding it??
With Best Intentions, Joanne

Eden Botanicals has the resin. http://www.edenbotanicals.com/essential ... grade.html (scroll down)

New Directions Aromatics has the essential oil. Eden Botanicals does too, but I've found many of their essential oils to be more of a fine perfumery grade and I wouldn't waste them in soap.

I think you're crossing the line a bit by calling it "healing soap" - the name alone is a claim, kwim?
