Hi, I'm Judy from kentucky. I have been making soaps since 1992. I've always just used my own recipe using herbs, oatmeal, and usually Patchouli essential oil. For the last few years, I can't get that great earthy, spicy smell, I used to love. I have tried different companies, and used both fragrance and essential oils. What is the secret of retaining the strong fragrance in CP soaps? Where can I get the best Patchouli fragrance, and what is a good fragrance to add to Patchouli to make it even more spicy? I have more questions, but I'll just stick with the fragrance question for now. Thanks for your help.

Welcome!
I have seen adultarated essential oil of Patchouli due to its increased price. There are also a couple of varieties. I buy mine online from reputable vendors like BrambleBerry. You can find theirs here: http://www.brambleberry.com/Patchouli-E ... P3420.aspx
You can add spice essential oils like clove, but in larger amount it can make your soap seize. Too much cinnamon and it could be irritating to the skin.

What soapbuddy just said also you may like to try BB Spiced Mahogany, I like it for the spicy smell but you could add some patchouli with it. I made something the other day, Patchouli EO, BB Neroli FO, Vanilla FO (a sweet one) and it came up really beautiful a bit like L--- Karma. Just a thought.

Thanks for your comments. Maybe spicey isn't the word I'm looking for. It's hard to put into words a certain scent. I always just used Patchouli alone with nothing else, and i loved it. I've noticed there is a pepper oil. Has anyone used it with Patchouli? Does it burn like the edible pepper?

Too much pepper oil can irritate the skin. It's best used in a small amount in a blend.

What soapbuddy and mocoochino said. Spiced Mahogany is awesome.

Also, do yourself a favor and try Arabian Spice from Bramble Berry. It'll accelerate trace in a New York second...but it's makes an awesome goat's milk blend. Cinnamon, sage, clove, etc.
