Does Vanilla stabilizer neutralize smells as well as help with color?

I worked out a complex scent with 12 different fragrance oils to get it just so. A few had vanilla in their composition so I added the appropriate amount of VS for CP since I was making a light green and white bar. I swear the smell changed right before my nose. It lost some of its depth and a couple of notes seemed to disappear altogether. I left my blend in its container for over an hour to see if the scent would return but sadly it was still a mere shadow of what it had been.

I'm not clear on this - were you soaping? Or did you add the VS directly to the fragrance oils?

I would soap it with and without the VS and compare the result.

I've got a bottle of stabilizer sitting in my soap room. I adore Vanilla. Vanilla all the things! However, there's no great youtube vids or anything on stabilizer in CP. I would love to have a colorful, creamy smelling soap, but since I have zero experience with it and I'm a teeny bit of a scrooge, I'm loathe to even do a test batch with it. Hearing that it ate some of the notes in your FO, makes me even more trigger shy about using it.

Fragrance with a vanilla stabilizer will still discolor over time.

Vanilla Color Stabilizer is not suppose to alter the smell of a product. Having said that, I use it in MP products at a 1:1 ratio with the FO. I add them to my soap separately. I have a few bars that are over a year old and they turned slightly beige, but not brown. I know some people have used it in CP with mixed results on the browning, but I've never heard of it changing the smell.
