I've been using the max usage rates in my cp soaps. The bakery/vanilla type fragrances seem to be sticking well in the soaps, however, the florals lose their scent and are either barely noticeable or not noticeable at all. I mostly use BB and WSP FO's.

When the fragrance does not stick, is it okay to go over the max usage rate in a brand new batch? I understand that when rebatched it is okay to add additional FO and that it should not fade. Is this correct? This has happened to about four of my batches and I'm not sure I want to go through the trouble of rebatching, but I might. I'm a little broken hearted over this.

It is never ok to go above the recommended usage rate whether in the original soap or a rebatch. If you are making hot process soap, when are you adding the fragrance? What is the flash point?

Thank you, Irena, for your time. I am making cold process soap. I am soaping at 120 degrees or below and the flash point of the FO's is 200. I am adding the FO at light to medium trace.

For cold process soap, I add the fragrance directly to my cooled off oils. I soap for both oils and lye right around 110. I go by the feel of my hands, so the temp is not exact.

Irena, have you ever had a problem with FO's fading or completely disappearing from your soap once it has cured?
