This week I made 2 batches of soap with florals. I have been hesitant to try florals because I have read that they tend to accelerate . The first one I used was BB's Lily of the Valley. No acceleration, no discolor and I made a beautiful white and green swirl. I love the scent. The other one was BB's Rosehip and Jasmine. There was a slight acceleration but not enough to keep me from getting a nice pink, rose, white and green swirl. This is a very nice rose scent. I am so pleased . I just needed to tell someone. Do any of you have suggestions for other florals that behave really well?

BB's violet behaved really well for me! As does english rose. I've had no A or D with either!

I have a batch of violet curing right now. It did accelerate on me, but as I was doing one color this was not a problem. I am still not sure about the scent. Will wait until the cure is complete, but right now I am thinking that BB's lilac will top this one.

Kind of on-topic...I did a batch of Lilac from Oregon Trail about 5 years ago. It was slow enough trace that I managed to put a swirl in it. I just opened a box I'd stored back then and there were a few of the Lilac bars...they look and smell as fresh as when I first made them! No discoloration and the scent was fresh and vivid. If you happen to like Lilac, that was a great one. :)

Being a newbie to soaping, I only have experience with two florals so far. Yes, I've been avoiding florals because of all the bad press about them behaving badly. Skeert! :D Both of the florals I've used so far came from Peak. (Thanks again to Hestey for pointing them out to me!) Their lilac is wonderful! No discoloration, no acceleration and it's pretty darned close to the real thing. Granted, real lilac can be sickeningly sweet, but most lilac FOs go way overboard with the sweet angle in my opinion. Can't wait to try BBs version for comparison. It's been three weeks since I first soaped with it, and it seems to have gotten a tad stronger, but not overwhelmingly so.

The second one I tried was freesia that was blended with two other fragrances I have used successfully with no A or D issues. It's a very nice, light floral and reviewers reported no issues with it. OK, I'll bite. Sounds safe enough, right? Holy mother of God! Even with that tiny amount of freesia, I came within a gnat's eyebrow of my first soap-on-a-stick experience. I expected the TD-colored portion to accelerate, but that was the best behaved part of the batch. The orange was a close second, but the hydrated chrome green oxide? Yikes! I had to put on my face mask, pads and gloves and battle that stuff down into the mold. I half expected it to come roaring right back out and into my face. Being a stubborn sort, I carried on with my basic design plan (hanger swirl with mica lines in between the layers) and figured it would end up being a rebatch. Who knew? Aside from a couple of air holes, I really like the end result. I just wonder if I can ever duplicate it without the smackdown?
