The citronella soap has had about four weeks of cure time now. It smells more like I'd expect citronella to smell, so I like it. I may try some of the additions that have been suggested.

I made some beer soap yesterday. I boiled the beer to remove the alcohol and concentrate the beer. I used a stout and an ale. I added an ounce of hops I had broken up in the blender. I couldn't decide whether or not to try adding any other scent, and what scent to add. The hops smelled nice so I just went with them. The soap looks nice but doesn't smell very nice. I'm hoping that as it cures the smell will improve, as it did with the citronella soap.

I would think the hops would give it a piney or citrusy smell. I know that beer turns into vinegar if left out in the air but does the beer soap turn sour or does it keep it's smell since the alcohol is gone? I've always used Skin So Soft to repel mosquitoes. It contains Citronellol which is a chemical in Citronella oil. I know mosquitoes are attracted to the carbon dioxide we exhale as well as lactic acid we release from exercising or eating certain foods. I wonder if there are any oils or fragrances that can mask the scent of lactic acid or carbon dioxide? Another tip is to wear light colored clothing as mosquitoes are attracted to dark colors.
