In the end, you have to decide for yourself. And hopefully you will only have good experiences with any and all companies you choose. If you get your product in a timely manner, are happy with said product, then there is no reason to dislike the company. This should be the way it always is. I have never once had to speak to anyone at my oil supply company. I order, I get it in a timely manner, I use it, it works as it should, it is the quality I expect. I love that company! While I do believe that if I had a problem they would work to make me happy, I don't know that for fact personally, yet I am confident based upon the lack of issues over the numerous orders I have placed, as well as those of my acquaintances. I love this company and recommend them all the time.
But the truest test of company quality (in my opinion) is when there is an issue, since the only time that we know for sure how a company will respond, is when they have to. If you have a question, are they knowledgeable and quick to reply? Do they find out things they don't know? Are they respectful when addressing you? If you have problem with a product or your order in general, do they work to correct the issue in a timely manner? Do they treat you with respect and make you feel valued as a customer? If you are pleased with how they handle your issues and how they treat you as a person and customer, then you know the company is a good one. If you remain unhappy with anything, then it is important how they respond to that too. Anyone can make a mistake, anyone can have a bad day, but a customer driven business must concentrate on customer service, and management must fix issues that are mishandled or get by the intake rep. Certainly one mistake or one mishandling of a problem isn't always reason to quit using them, but a pattern of issues or lack of customer service certainly is in my book.
As far as I am concerned most companies could learn from the BB model of customer service!

ETA: And no, you don't always get what you pay for. I have purchased a few things from wsp that I felt were extremely high priced for the quality, or lack thereof. :(
