I am interested in knowing something about Amber oil. I am reading that there is no such thing as an Amber Essential Oil, is this true? I would like to use it as a base for a solid perfume, and when I Googled it, I didn't really see any vendors that carry it. I saw FO's that say Amber fragrance oil but no Amber EO. I went to the trusted and ever so popular Brambleberry site and there is an Amber fragrance oil but it has other elements, I am just looking for Amber by itself. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you!

Yep, there is no such thing as Amber Essential Oil. There is Amber resin, which by the way is very expensive and most likely would not smell like the "amber" that you're used to or think it should smell like. Most of the fo's, perfumes and scents out there that are called Amber are actually attempts at duplicating Ambergris. True Ambergris comes from sperm whales.

Thank you, so if I want to add Amber as a base, I would use Amber FO, because I really can't afford resin!! I don't remember who it was, it might have been Southern Soapers (Is that the name of the now defunct business?), that had Ambergris but without the actual animal component, f that makes any sense!

There is a synthetic ambergris, but I have no idea what's in it.

Amber fo is the most cost effective.

I bought a synthetic ambergris, but it doesn't have much scent. It's light.
