Well, it's finally happened, somebody asked me to make a patchouli soap. And I'm not a patch lover.

What kind of percentages do you use for your soap? I know it's strong stuff, and a little goes a long way. (I have to confess that I agree with whoever said the scent reminded them of old hippie. )

From what I've seen, citruses and patch are popular blends. I saw someone on another forum who did 3/1 some kind of citrus (can't remember what now) and patchouli. And I got a patchouli and sweet orange in a soap swap I participated in recently, and it's not a bad scent, to me.

I just need to make sure I don't have to leave home while the stuff cures, or rent a storage facility to cure it in. Although I did survive the anise. (Just recently bought more, if you can believe that. )

Thanks for all the help.

Anita

Hi, Anita. I love patchouli. Haven't used it alone in a bar yet, but I love it it on its own.

I recently made a batch of Orange Patchouli at a 3:1 rate (I used 3 parts Orange 10x EO to one part patchouli EO). It turned out really nice - mostly orange with a bit of earthiness in the background. My mom hates patchouli, but she likes this blend.

I like lavender and patchouli, too, and would probably try it at the same rate. There are so many patchouli blends I want to try. :D

Are you talking only eo's? If you're looking for fo blends, patchouli & strawberry is a big hit with my customers.

Here is a blend that turned out well for me:

Cassia-1 part, Rose Geranium-3 parts, Patchouli-12 parts, Ylang Ylang III-2 parts. I didn't like this combination at first, but after a couple of weeks I loved it.

I don't like patch either, but my hubby does so I made him a Lime (2), Patch (1) & Cinnamon Leaf (just a touch) blend. I really like the way the lime comes out in this blend. Patch with a touch of chocolate FO smells great, too. :D

I love Patch! I could bathe in it. :D For my Patch soaps, I use 0.4 to 0.5 oz. per lb. of soap.

The problem is I'm kind of flying blind here. The person who requested it is a co-worker of my friend that I made the anise soap for. The co-worker just asked if I "made patchouli", so I really have no idea if she would even know what she'd want with it. And I'm getting this second-hand, via my friend anyway.

I think I'll have my friend make some inquiries. It may turn out that the co-worker doesn't have a clue what else she'd like and will just trust me to come up with something.

So, Irena, since you are a self-admitted patch addict, do you have any favorite blends? :D

Also, I have no problem mixing EOs and FOs, so depending on what I get back from my friend, I'll see what kind of stuff she wants, or is it just "dealer's choice".

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll keep you all posted.

Anita

Patch blends well with Vanilla, Amber, citrusess tree type scents like oakmoss or vetiver. That are many different ways that yoiu can go. Put some on a couple of q-tips and smell, :J

When I first received an order for Patchouli Soap I too was mortified. I have always hated the smell of it. So I tried a few blends until I came up with using sandalwood, patchouli and musk (in equal amounts). After I first poured it I still hated it, ha ha. But then after forgetting it out overnight the fragrance really matured and developed into something better. I still wasn't sold on the scent but eventually found myself repeatedly sniffing it while packaging it. So one day I ended up giving it a try and now I am now a huge fan of using patchouli. Give it a try! This is now a scent I find pretty relaxing and am still continuing to develop a nose for blending it. I have even converted a few other patch haters.

Sorry for the long post :)
Best Wishes, Jen

Have any of you used the BB patch FO? The EO is a little spendy for me right now, but the FO is really reasonable!
