I thought I'd mention that I recently had an interesting (if unpleasant) experience with blending a small amount of Vanuatu Sandalwood oil with Ylang Ylang oil (YY III, in this case). Both are strongly-scented oils, but the combination was not only significantly subdued in aroma, but VERY different from either ylang or sandalwood, or a combination of the aromas of the two original oils --- the blend came out VERY unpleasant smelling, with a funky, harsh aroma that I quickly had to wash off my arm! It smelled NOTHING like either Ylang Ylang or Sandalwood --- words fail me in trying to describe the resulting stink, but it was NOT good. And the blend was just as bad in the small vial that I mixed it up in, so it wasn't my skin chemistry in this case messing things up either.
This experiment makes me firmly convinced that at least some oils, when mixed together, can undergo actual chemical reactions with each other that result in a radically different product(s) than just a blend of the components of the original two oils.
