So I was thinking in addition to the soaps I will make this year as Holiday Gifts it would be cool to make some natural crayons. But I have really been scratching my head over here of what I should use to as a colorant. I looked up veggie candle dyes, but they fade. And anyways just because something "natural" doesn't mean it's automatically safe for a child to ingest. So I was thinking I could use activated Charcoal to make black crayons, Titanium Dioxide to make white crayons, and maybe some cosmetic grade iron oxides or micas to make the color crayons. But I'm questioning if that would be safe. There's a world of difference between a woman licking a little lipstick off her lips, and a young child consuming an entire crayon or two when their parents aren't looking. I was thinking maybe using plant based powders, but those colors tend to be so mute, and I want my crayons to be bright.
Is there anyone on this board who would know if these cosmetic grade minerals would be safe for children? Thank you.
