I was at a craft fair the other day and a soap booth also carried scented "room" spray. Of course, a majority of it was water, and contained essential oils, and a preservative. Has anyone else tried this? I'm going to give it a shot, but I was wondering if anyone had any tips, specifically regarding the percentage of water, and other ingredients. Thanks in advance!!!

Essential oils and just water will not stay mixed. They will separate over time and customers don't always read the label that might say "shake before use". You will need an emulsifier so the two stay together and mixed. I would also test to make sure that any formula you make is stable over time and that the preservative that you use will hold up.

I've looked into room sprays, and straight water won't help the scent stick, and can potentially wet your carpet, furniture if sprayed too liberally. I have a couple of recipe's and tutorials saved that suggest perfumers alcohol (best option) or, for the cheaper option, high proof alcohol to help the scent stick and dry almost immediately.

Ok. I'll check into that. Thank you! I hate to buy extra ingredients though. I was hoping to just make a new product with stuff I already order. Thanks for the feedback though you guys!

But since this would be for a room deoderizer and not something used on the skin, would rubbing alcohol work?
