I'm pretty sure that I would not buy anything from this company after reading this. I think they were are justified in making their statement as to why the information was removed, but it's very unprofessional for them to claim the FDA is corrupt and taking bribes from the pharmaceutical companies. That's not good business practice.

I am wondering if they are just very angry at the moment? Not that I want to always think in the negative but there is some doubt about our government. A lobbiest is no more that a legal way to bribe someone. And having worked in the health field... I know there have been cases that the big companies know about a side effect of a med and bury that information in the data or eliminate it. But I am all for playing by the rules, so maybe this company will settle down and modify what they wrote. I am a little glad to know that the FDA is watching... we have all seen some that strech the limit when they promote their product.

I couldn't help but laugh at the "corruption" comments. It's almost exactly what all the people that are violating FDA regulations over on Etsy are yelling about.

I don't think that this is a case of after they calm down they'll rething what they wrote. That blog post was written in May.

I don't understand why people think they're above the law and think that the FDA is some horrible company, but only when they get caught or they don't want to play by the rules. These same types of people aren't out there complaining when the FDA shuts down food companies when they're operating in insanitary conditions or medical devices have to be recalled because they're not safe.

They definitely sounded angry. The corruption part was very catty and not appropriate for a business.

This reminded me of a vendor at the event I went to last weekend. She was selling "Healing"balms, bath salts and body washes (which based on her ability to describe her product were from bases). I didn't even try to explain to her that what she was doing is illegal. Especially since she was so hyped about telling me how it will help all kinds of bug bites and relieve sunburns and such. She could not even talk about body washes very well since "she was new to all this". Of course I had to go home and check out her website, which has evidently been up for a year. The FDA would have a hayday there. I just hope she has great insurance. I wrote a huge blog piece about it, but it makes me sound a bit catty and very negative, and I am trying to hard to stay optimistic.

It really does seem a shame..... can any of us say anything to a customer that describes a benificial component in our homemade products? We know they are there.! What would one actually have to do to state a claim about an ingredient from a legal standpoint,who would you contact ? At some point some homecrafters have risen above a hobby and have to go to the next step,or not? I don't know. As far as the lady selling at the fair ...don't be to hard on her all of this is a learning process and she was pribably excited about her craft and her show,as a fellow crafter you could have come back later with some websites to direct her to info she probably would apprietiate in the longrun. I think most of us want to make a buck but more than that we have a passion for what we do and want to do the right thing and stand proudly behind our creations and ALL the answers don't come all at once.

So say someone comes to your booth and asks " what does your homemade skin serum do for skin"? what is an appropiate response?

I don't have a skin serum, but here's what I'd say, "It moisturizes and hydrates the skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles."

That would be a completely legal way to say it. Now if I were to say that the serum "stops wrinkles from forming" or something like that, then it would be considered a drug.

Oh, that is very good ,it's more than I thought you even could say. I've been under the impression that even saying something is moisturizing or helps reduce wrinkles was not acceptable. thanks Genny
