Post subject: A question for business owners in the U.S.....

This might seem like a silly question but because I am in the process of selling my home, I have to ask. I won't be buying for a few years if ever again, so I'm wondering - are there any business owners who are currently renting? And if so, was it hard for you to find a landlord who allowed it? I don't want to lose hope on starting my own biz, but I'm just wondering if giving up homeownership is going to thwart/kill the dream?

I agree with soap buddy! My land lords are amazing, they actually purchase items from me! We live in a 10 building complex with 30 apartments to a building, they hang flyers that they made for when I host my Christmas kick off to bring people in to order from me. I'd ask first.

Maybe look at it as though you were asking about allowing pets.

When I used to rent (I own my home now - well, me and the bank! :lol:

), that was always my very first question - do you allow pets? If the answer was "no", I didn't spend any more time or effort at that place.

And if you are allowed to have a home biz, make sure you have renter's insurance and business insurance so that you'll be able to replace everything if something happens.

THANK YOU all for the input! My mind is definitely at ease now...now here's hoping to finding a landlord who will be a willing participant to my madness

And yes, wouldn't think of not getting rental or biz insurance. That would just be asking for trouble. That, and I remember the Fayt debacle from a couple months ago too :lol:

My landlord knows I make soap. He commented that at least the house will smell great after I leave haha.

No, unfortunately, we are still in "negotiations". Apparently, my home's worth went up $8k when my bank received a 100% cash offer, so my bank countered the offer by asking for more money. The buyer's agent has until tomorrow to come back with a response to the counter. I'm trying so hard to keep from having a mental breakdown from all this......it really sucks to just see the ugly, greedy side of human nature as it pertains to business & making money. :cry:

I definitely am hoping for the best for your daughter in this. It is definitely a rollercoaster ride and I'm sure July can't come soon enough for her!

And yep, you're right. Right now, I'm just so upset with this bank....they killed the last sale by threatening financial penalty to the last buyers if they couldn't close on time, so they ran the other way. But this isn't the first questionable action they've taken.....we went into foreclosure when we were two months behind in payments in the middle of 2010 after I was laid off in late 2009. With the help of family we were able to stop auction by paying what we owed to bring it current. So what did they do two months after that? Sent me a mortgage bill for an amount $800 OVER my regular payment and when I called on it, no one could explain why, just that I would have to pay the amount shown on the bill or they would send the payment back for being short. Then I finally get a notice that says that I'm going to have to pay this increased amount for the next 10 months to cover their legal expenses on the foreclosure. *This*, of course, happening while I'm still being reviewed for a loan mod. Oh, and the outcome on the loan mod? They said that my husband and I would both need full-time jobs in order to meet the qualifications of it. :lol:

I laugh and cringe as I type this because only one of us had a full time job when we bought the house!

What a truely screwed up mess that is!!!! I know lawyers are not cheap but have you talked with someone to see if this bank is playing fair? I tend to deal mostly with credit unions... found them more willing to help me if I needed it.
