I am sooo going to get my husband to build me one of these. I think it would be great for drying soaps. I think I will have him use screen material instead of wood slats on the trays

LOL I have so many DIY blogs saved as favorites because I love the ideas and want to try them...not sure there is enough time on earth to do them all, but I will give it a shot!!

That's very cool. I have a birthday coming up in a few months, I wonder if my husband needs me to drop him some hints ;)

For anyone that is going to build one of these and want to follow GMP guidelines, soap can't sit on wood so you'd have to put plastic or steel trays on the racks.

If I can ever get more than an hour or so a day to do stuff that I want/need to do, like on a weekend when there will be 2 other people available to watch the twins, I'd probably attempt this. I, uh, however, would have Lowe's or Ace Hardware cut the wood to the size pieces I need to begin with because I don't have the tools required for it  If I did, it would be easy peasy, but I don't, so I don't mind paying them to do it. I'm pretty handy with tools though so I can definitely put it all together. I'd probably stretch chicken wire across the bottom of each drawer, then do 2 or 3 boards across to help stabilize it and give it a little bit more even weight distribution. Easy enough. Think like slats for your bedframe :D

I think I'd use vinyl screen or plastic needlepoint canvas for the bottom, rather than chicken wire. I'd worry it would react to the soap.

Yeah, a kid was yelling her head off instead of taking her nap so she distracted me and I didn't go back and fix that. I was thinking chicken wire to build one that was actually for food. For soap I'd do the slats with the plastic mesh, and for veggies I'd do more slats (just not as many as seen there) and the chicken wire.

I have build a few things but think this one is out of my league and I do not have the time. Due to vacations I am scheduled for 7 shifts (8hrs) per week for 3 weeks in July. That has me seeing dollar signs (and of course a little tired) but I should be able to afford it. Think I will print this out and see if my carpenter cousin will make it for me. Maybe plan to have it done as a birthday gift in fall. The big question is do I actually cure that much soap at one time. But maybe I could use the bottom for my carrots and onions??? If anyone gets this done...please let me know what you use for the floor of the drawers.

Maybe you could have him build one with less drawers? Or use the extra drawers to store your FOs or molds?

I have hung onions in pantyhose from the rafters in the basement and never noticed an odor... I think that if the skins are on the scent is contained. But Linda you are right I could use it for mold storage.... since I finally broke down and ordered some new ones! Maybe if they had such a nice home they would not 'leave for vacation'!
