I'm going to sell at a craft show in 6 weeks. It gets pretty hot here in Newport New, VA (it will probably be mid 80s to 90°) and I'm concerned about my lip balms, whipped butters, and ointments melting. if I do decide to sell these along with my soap, is there anyway to keep them cool while also displaying them? Or should I nix them and refer customers to my etsy shop?

I sold at our Farmer's Market yesterday and when it was over at noon it was already 90 degrees! I was only sell CP soap, but if I had lip balms or anything else, I would have needed an ice chest to keep them cool. Even the one tube I had in my purse was getting really soft!

I live in Palm Springs where triple digits in the summertime is the norm. I keep a sample of lip balm out, then the rest are in a cooler under the table. My soaps stay out though.

I had whipped shea butter out one day when the temps got around 90 and it completely melted. Texture was definitely not the same once it re-cooled :(. I'm guessing that something like a salve that is just melted oils (with fragrance/essential oil) would be fine if it melted, as it would re-harden to be the same consistency. But I'm def. not an expert, so that's just a guess.

Same with whipped butters. I live in Louisiana where our summers are pretty long and high 90s to low 100s daily, and the humidity is killer, took four outside for about 15 mins for photos and they all were ruined. I sometimes even have to put my mixture over ice while I'm filling them into jars inside my house!!

Yeah, it's disappointing to think of whipped butters melting and not hardening back to their original state. However, I do wonder, like you said if a balm or ointment would be okay? I have an anhydrous balm that has oils and beeswax in it... anyone think this will be okay when it re-hardens?

I am definitely bringing a cooler either way. Thanks so much! I can always count on you ladies (and gentlemen) to help me out.

Couldn't you just re-whip those butters back into shape?

How well do lotions hold up in the heat? I want to start selling them at the farmer's market, but if the heat will make them thin out or something I won't.
