To all the East-Coast soapers out there - this is going to be a rough storm. You will be in our thoughts and prayers this weekend.

I hope everyone evacuates if they are told to do so! I lived on the east coast of FL and went though quite a few hurricanes, but never hung around for the Cat. 4-5 storms. I'm happy that it is missing all of my friends and family in FL, and am hoping that the storm will move farther east into the Atlantic and away from the coastline.

I live in Northern NJ, and in a bad flood zone. Evacutating is not an option. I have animals, and the places won't let you bring them, and I won't leave them. I've am hoping that it will vear off a bit. The last noreasterner we had over 3 feet of water in my yard. I live in a mobile home, so good thing my home is about 3 1/2 feet off of ground. I still loose all my personal property in yard and shed. Nothing I can do about that, and I've had to live this way for almost 30 years. It beats you down after awhile.

This storm looks crazy! We are up in Vermont and they are telling us to be prepared as well. (um....what!) Last week we felt the earthquake that rocked VA and now a hurricane??? Thank goodness we have enough food and live on the second floor.

Stay safe all!

I've been keeping a close eye on Irene's projected path, too. I've lived near the Florida Gulf coast for nearly all of my life, and I've been through many hurricanes. My husband and I lost almost all of our possessions in Hurricane Ivan in 2004. (We evacuated, so we were safely away in Baton Rouge.) After Ivan, we moved to higher ground a little further inland. I always breathe a sigh of relief when a hurricane steers away from us, but I feel terrible for whoever is going to catch it because I know how nasty hurricanes can be. Even a tropical storm can make a huge mess of things.

I've got friends and relatives along the East coast, and I'm thinking about them and all of our soaper friends there. Please stay safe, jkmcreative and citymouse! Evacuating with animals can be tricky. It seems like I remember some hotels making exceptions and allowing evacuees to bring their pets for some of our major hurricanes. Some hotels are pet-friendly - I think La Quinta welcomes pets.

Stay safe, everybody! We're all thinking about our East coast friends!

Boston is still clear. We were supposed to go camping today. I couldn't do it cause I kept envisioning a tree falling on our tent. So I'm at home playing with eo's instead. I have friends in VA Beach which is getting pummeled. My NoVa family is fine so far.

I'm hoping all of our northeast soaping friends are doing ok today as Irene makes her way up the coast.

I'm thinking of all of you that have been affected by this hurricane. I hope you are safe and warm!

Irene wasn't too bad in my area. We only lost power for a short time. I hope some of the other ladies who posted remarks will let us know how they're doing.

Just a little update, although I am sure everyone has seen the news. Southern Vermont was severely affected by hurricane Irene. Roads have collapsed in Killington and people have lost their homes in Woodstock and other nearby towns. Also some of Vermont's historical covered bridges have been washed away. While i don't believe anyone was actually hurt many people were without water and electricity for at least 4 days.

It's raining here again (has been for the past 2 days) and the national guard is on standby in case they are needed. One of the best things about this little state is that everyone has pulled together to help out those in need. We will be donating soap to a group collecting supplies for those in need, I am happy to be able to contribute something, even if it's little.

We are safe, a little water logged but safe, I hope that S. VT recovers quickly though.

take care all!
Erin

I'm glad to see that you're safe. Now if we could only move that rain to all the fires.

Glad to hear that you are safe, citymouse. It sounds like Vermont had serious flooding problems, and I am thinking about you all. I know how long and arduous clean-up after a hurricane can be, and I wish you a speedy recovery. I hope Katia drifts out to sea and stays away from the East coast. We're entering peak hurricane season and the tropics are starting to look pretty busy. Maria is out there now, too. Stay safe, everybody!
