Oh how cute! I think I actually have one of those turtles ^_^ I collect turtles! And I love the use of the tulle and diamonds. You have so many great textures in that display!
Are you working on a display setup for picture taking or for putting up a booth or for something else entirely? You'd probably want different setups for each and it will help us critique a bit better if we knew what you were displaying for! It does look lovely, though :)

May I be honest? It looks busy to me and doesn't concentrate on your pretty soaps.

Thanks Tamra for the encouragement. I have no design talents whatsoever, LOL. This is for a table display. I will set back from all the other vendors so my display MUST pop.

I will display perhaps 15 to 20 different types of soap, so there will be more soap per plate, and the plates will be closer.

Hey soapbuddy, sending you an internet high five., I'm getting a permanant 7 day a week sales location, these are just some of the elements I purchased to make the space inviting but I don't really know what the final display will look like yet, thanks for the advice...and do you like the rocks...they are sooo pretty, I hope they don't dull or fade.

This is just my opinion:

I am not sure if I read it somewhere or if someone told me... When setting up a booth display if it is not for sale do not keep it on the table. I think your display is cute but like soapbuddy said it does take away from your soaps. My thoughts would be to put your soaps on the plates, but I would remove the rocks from the plate and Take the little turtles off the table. If you are going to display 15 -20 soap then your tables will be full and will look nice , not to busy. ( you have about 30 seconds to get someones attention before they move on.) Let your soaps be the focus of the table. I always set up my displays with about 5 -6 soaps per plate and refill as needed that way little fingers are not touching all my soaps.
take a picture and let us know what you decide. I love seeing pictures of displays. I have also looked at pictures from flicker on setting up my booth for inspiration. Hope this helps.

Good luck with your display, and hope you have a great success.

Alrighty... for a sale table setup... and it needs to pop...
For the two soaps you chose to photograph, you did a wonderful job picking the colors in your pretty things to help the soap colors really pop! It really draws my attention straight to the plate with the pink soaps on it and then the marching turtles help my eye travel to the second plate of soap and I continue to follow the turtles off the table (where I would assume you'd have more soaps with a larger table). Although, I would have to agree that with the multiples of turtles you have on your table, it would make me as a buyer, think that maybe they were on sale, too ^_~ But if you decide to keep the marching turtles, make sure that they are leading the customer from plate to plate and keep the eyes on your table (ie. no turtles marching off the end of the table, lol!)

On to my disclaimer: I am coming at this completely and totally from an artistic stand-point (my formal training is in art)... I haven't had the opportunity to work in sales so while I can help with artistic eye-catching displays, I'm not an expert on sales displays.

I would have to say that I don't agree with it looking too busy... especially when you start to add more plated soap plates to the set up... but then again, I would keep any extra pretty things to a minimum- just keep the few things you have shown us and don't add much more... you're selling soap, not knick knacks, hehe! An added bonus would be if you could somehow use your pretty things as actual soap displays! Like for your elephant, if the bamboo comes out and you can find a plate that would fit over the bowl opening and then place some of your products on that :) Be careful with the tulle... it can collect dirt and leaves and other stuff blowing in the wind (if this is an outdoor place) really easily and you'll want to keep your booth looking as clean as you can! If it were me, I would get a table cloth and then use the tulle as accents (like a little bit of tulle under your pretty things or a long strip of tulle running underneath the soap plates to sort of connect them together with the tulle puffing up a bit in between the plates).
I would also suggest getting some sort of tiered rack to help add some height interest to your display, too ^_^

Hi phillysoap! Your soaps look really nice on the plates, but I have to agree with both soapbuddy and countrygirl that the other items detract from your soap. I also think it's a good idea to have your soaps displayed at different heights to add interest to the display. Will you have any type of signage with your name, what kind of soap, pricing, etc?

I am sorry, but for selling soap you should leave the rocks out and the turtles too. Little hands will find those, bigger hands will knock them, they will be dropped and they are just distracting to a sales environment. If you want interest and pop, create levels and use your product colors and their coordination to create the pop. Your labels, your products, your display elements and your table coverings will create enough drama, and you dont want to confuse anyone. Keep the rocks and the turtles for photographs, that's where they will look nice and help with pop, although I too think its too much the way it is now, even for a photo. But some would look great. ANyway, believe me, you will have enough product to fill the space, and you wont need all these extras. And carting them around isnt much fun either. Go and look at other set-ups and get some ideas of vertical displays, boxes, and such, and I am sure you will find some nice ways to create interest on your table, organically. Much luck and congratulations on your new sales spot!

I am very new to this so you may take my advice with a grain of salt. It seems to me that a pretty display brings people in but buyers want to pick up the soap and smell. I have a girlfriend who has been selling her goat milk soap for years. She told me she always displayed her soaps in open baskets that people felt free to stick their hands in. When she changed her display to a more formal set up with little shelves her sales dropped off immediately. When she went back to her simple baskets, her sales went back up.

My experience and my friend's experience is from selling soap at farmer's markets so maybe it doesn't really equate. Just offering it up. I think your display is pretty.

Well today is day three. I listened to everything written, and your ideals are great. The turtles face the plates and since they only cost a dollar, I made a customers day by including one in her sale.

The cement on a mall floor is brutal, i have kidney pain, back pain, foot pain.

The love I've experienced in the past two days has been worth it. This is my home town so every 5 minutes, it hugs, well wishes and new friends. Sales have been steady and promising. It will definately take three people to work the cart this weekend.

That's great news!! You must be so proud of what you've accomplished.

Not so great about the body aches and pains though :( Do you have a rubber mat to stand on? Back in my retail days we used those on the hard floors and I think it helped.
