I know its only August, but I need to order my Christmas Decorations for the store front next week. I'm thinking of framing the whole building in clear lights or maybe I should just do the store front (street level)?

Any suggestions, it my first year in the store.

Sorry for the crappy picture, it was busy tonight, and I took it quickly with my phone.

What a lovely shop Margo! I would frame the windows, the door way and the columns directly in front of the door way, along with the archway piece that links the columns (goes over the walkway), but that piece I would wrap with lighted garland. And, while I love the crisp look of the white lights, I might consider doing a color (blue comes to mind) to self myself apart from the other shops.
Just my opinion, I am sure whatever you do will look lovely!

Thanks for your kind words. I’m part of a condo association so unfortunately I need approval (thats why I’m starting early) I think I’m going to have to stick with clear lights, but will try to add some colour with garland and wreaths. Will definitely have mini trees on both side of the door.

Next question: How early does the season start? Is November 1st pushing it?

I’m also hoping to have a large enough tree inside the store, decorated with soap.

I’m new to this store front business, and always planning ahead is is a learning curve for sure. I’m not the most organized person.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

Oh yea, for sure add lighted topiaries or the grapevine trees on the door sides, wreaths and the (fake) candle lights in the windows, and if you must have white lights, I'd try to place the tree in the window view so that different colors shine through. I think that colors in the mist in an all white palate are something that will attract shoppers.

While I personally think that November 1 is too soon for Christmas, retailers do not. In fact, many here in the states will begin bringing in their holiday inventory and inside displays in October, sectioning the store with both holidays. Then they change out the store front decorations the very day after Thanksgiving. While I have seen some change the store fronts before Thanksgiving, I think most leave them up until Thanksgiving day.

You are right, in the retail business you have to think ahead. It is an adjustment, but you will become more organized out of necessity, if nothing else. So make yourself some lists, and you will get there, I am sure. Your shop is beautiful, and it has to be so exciting to be preparing for your first holiday season in it! So in the midst of all the stress, I hope you take time to enjoy the process as well as the fruits of your labor!

OOh lovely. I love my "white" tree and am somewhat traditional and use only family made decorations or those received by familly and red bows that have been handed down. So I think as long as long as you have a theme going you could go with white and blue or white and red, or just white and all colors. But I think all white lights would be lovely. The tree inside decorated with soap is magical I think your very organized to already have thought about and in process of planning so be on yourself. I too think although most stores start in early November but would prefer after Thanksgiving as a buyer. You coud have a "fall" theme soaps to sell up until then, I mean a nice pumpkin bar or even just fall colors on top of your normal line.

Thanks again for all the suggestions, I will post pics closer to the season. Thanksgiving here is Oct 10 this year and not as big of a holiday as our US neighbours, so that is not an issue.

Yes, I will do some fall decorations, not sure if there is a market for Halloween Soaps, but I might give it a try.

Next task is to figure out how to hang the soaps from the tree.

As for being organized, I'm the type of person that writes everything on post its, then lose them :) I do have several booklets to write notes on too, but tend to lose those as well.

Ah well, there you have one of our issues solved! Here in the states Thanksgiving is in November and the retailers always try to rush the Christmas season, often beginning to lay out holiday themed items around Halloween! It gets earlier and earlier every year!
Much luck with hanging on to your notebooks and post its!
