Teach Soap

I learned alot in the last couple days. I traded crafts with an online out of state buddy. She LOVED my soap i sent her and ordered 50 bars! 20 bars are paid for and being mailed tomorrow and the remaining 30 equal a custom batch that will be ready to ship in 30 days.

Here is what I learned...
-I definately don't want a website, this one order freaked me out, it was very exciting
-online sales and custom work takes alot of time and negotiation
-I retail for $5, wholesale for $2.50, I offered this client free shipping off the top of my head, and two free bars of an out of stock item, so I'm getting $4 per bar
-I think I'll stick to...flea market, periodically, my two wholesale accounts and what ever deals like this pop up out the blue, BECAUSE I still can only make soap when I wanna "make soap".

That sounds so wonderful and especially wonderful to only make soap if and when you feel like and then to get paid in the process. A great win / win situation. Good on you

Congrats on your trade. You say that you made $4 per bar. I presume this is gross? After you deduct your supplies, your time, any packaging and free shipping, did you clear anything? How big is each bar?

I got my second out of state order, but it's kind of iffy. This guy called around christmas and wanted a specific soap. I just now made more of that same soap. Out of the blue he called again. I only accept paypal. What I plan to do is if i don't hear from this guy by monday I will send him a complimentary bar and written instructions on how to order more. He wanted 12 bars and again I offered free shipping, LOL, my mouth.

he sounded like a senior citizen and said his wife had paypal...but i know how hard all this technology is to use, so I'll keep doing business the dinosaur way

I do a lot of website sales and shipping costs would kill any profit if I did not charge shipping, my charges are never under 15.00 and most of the time higher than that! I am happy for you.

In all the chatter concerning soap sales on the internet, for some reason I always thought it was one or two bar transactions. I didn't realize that there might be 10 or 50 bar orders.

I am going to set a standard shipping charge that I am comfortable quoting, because I had no ideal how much shipping might be. So i know it cost me $18 to ship 20 bars....
