Teach Soap

I will be to the point of needing soap testers in about a week!! How many testers should I have? What kind of questions should I ask them? I was going to email them a form to fill out and once they do they will get a new bar. I am so excited

I had about 10 people testing for me - all ages and skin types. You are smart to have them fill out a form before giving them a new bar to test.

I asked about lather, how their skin felt after using it (dry, greasy, soft, etc.); how well it rinsed off, how long the bar lasted, how it felt on their skin; what didn't they like about it; fragrance (too much, too little?), any reaction/sensitivity, etc.

I have a half-dozen testers right now but I'd like to net 10 if I can get them.. Seems like a good number to cover a variety of ages, skin types, preferences, etc. Making them submit a form sounds like a good idea, though, I should try that... XD

I ask the same sorts of questions as ljm -- I also specifically ask when I post a new bar on my blog whether anyone has known allergies to any of the ingredients. Nothing's come up yet, but sometimes people have allergies to things I'd never thought of; for instance, one of my testers happens to be allergic to mace (the spice).

My sister is allergic to aloe so I don't include it in any of my soaps.

I also asked them to give me feedback on the color and shape. If you are also trying to determine your packaging and labels you could include questions on that. For sure I would have each one check the label before use for a substance they could be allergic to.
