What brought you into the soap making world?

For me it was my son's Eczema. Nothing that we used over the counter was working for him so I researched a bout soap making and goats milk. I made a MP bar of glycerin soap and added some goats milk and olive oil to it, to my surprise it worked, 3 days later he was eczema free and has been ever since. I know also make CP soap and I'm so hooked it's crazy. But enough about me. Tell me about your lathery love story.

Cant wait to hear about it!!!!!!!

My mother and grandmother made soap. I grew up with it. I made my first soap by myself in 1969. Haven't looked back since. :)

I have always like crafty stuff and one day I was watching a craft show on DIY and the lady was making cp soap. I thought I could do that! LOL! So then I started researching and found out about m&p. I started with that and like you, it helped clear up my daughter's eczema. So I did that for awhile and then decided to delve into the world of cp. I love it!

For me, it started one Christmas when we were very broke. My husband spent some time in the hospital, missed so much work and we were flat broke.

I made bath salts with peppermint essential oil and epsom ssalt as gifts because that was all we could afford at the time. It kinda grew from there. People loved them, and wanted to buy more! I went online and found recipes for bath bombs, M&P soap bases, etc. It was wonderful because it really helped us through a very tight time while keeping me at home with my (then) baby.

Now that my DD is in school, I have a PT job just so I can fund my soaps and such. Up till now, I have only been able to buy little bits of supplies here and there. I hope to be able to soap full time eventually.

My Grandmother made soap, but would always do it when we were in school ( too dangerous). I needed a new hobby and was really bothered by dry skin. So I started reading the lables of the soaps and shower jel I was useing. If it's so damn moisturizing then why am I slathering on lotion all the time. I decided I wanted to make soap, that way I controled what went into it. Im trying to get away from chemicals as much as possible. I really think that we're all exposed to way too many unhealthy chemicals. And that is one reason for so many allergys and cancers. I started with melt and pour. That was easy to work with and all the cool stuff you can do with that. But it still wasn't me making soap from scratch. So to further control what goes into soap I started making CP. and Im so loving useing home made soap. I'll never got back to useing Ivory or Dove.

For me, it was my Mother. She's 80ish and loves hand made soap, has very dry skin but is very allergic to fragrances and has (had) a very difficult finding good quality unscented soap. We were discussing it one day and somewhere in the middle of the night I it dawned on me that I can help her. Turns out I'm not just helping her, I'm helping many of her friends as well. They love the qualities of the hand made soap, but not the fragrances. And I'm able to formulate special soaps including different colors as they need. And it turns out that I'm better at it than I thought! From there, it just took off. My BF loves it now as well and we always make a batch when he comes home on leave (Marine stationed outside US) for the people in his unit (cphp). He says it gets grabbed up quickly.

I remember when I was a very little girl my mama making soap in the back yard. There are still chunks of this soap left after 45 years and it still works! I started learning about herbs and essential oils to help my great aunt. She has bad circulation and trouble with ulcers on her legs. The natural progression from that was to learn to make soap that wasn't irritating to her paper-thin skin, and to help with the infections. She only had one this year, and I like to think I helped because she got over it in record time. She uses my soaps now, and hasn't even had a hint of an ulcer since May. Before she kept them all the time. Now my friends and family have developed an interest, and there's no turning back! I'm an addict now!

It started for me with lotion. I was tired of paying big bucks for unscented lotion that did not do what I wanted it to do, moisturize, soften, help lessen wrinkles, etc. From somewhere the idea popped in my head that I could make some. A Google search brought me to Bramble Berry. And of course that took me from lotion to M&P soap. I now supply myself, my friends, my mother and her friends with wonderful fragrance-free lotions and soaps. And I have so much fun making it all!

I got into soapmaking at the age of 16 when I went out and spent a bunch of money on Primal Elements soaps, brought them home and thought "Hey! I can make these myself!" The internet wasn't quite the same back then - there was just AOL and there was only one book in print on making soap - so I basically taught myself through trial and error (and lots of errors and failed batches!). I can't imagine my life without it now. =)
