Hi everyone! :D
I'm having a hell of a time trying to figure out how to ship a lip balm for less than five dollars. I was planning to
ship these in a coin envelope- it ends up all weighing .55oz. The lowest price I get from usps is $4.95. I think that is way to much
to ship out a lip balm. Can anybody point me in the right direction as to how I would be able to ship these?

what about just making up a regular envelope with your business logo and stuff, fill the envelope with some peanuts and the lip balm... if if fits, that's the cost of a stamp or 2....

Sounds like a possibility...I had not thought of that! :D Is it possible to ship something rigid in a regular envelope?

if you wrap it in some bubble wrap (not too much though) the edges should be more forgiving. use a practice envelope and see how you like it.

Thanks!

I ship small items in a padded envelope. Then I either use Paypal's shipping option or take it to the post office and pay first class mail. It's much cheaper that way.

I was just looking at the First Class rates at usps. The prices are more reasonable. Thank goodness because $4.95 was way to
much to charge for shippng!
Thanks Soapbuddy.

First class is the way to go. If you put the lip balm into an envelope it is no longer considered a letter. Anything over 1/4 inch thick (if I remember right) is a small package and with a different set of rates. Use the shipping calculator at the usps website and play with it a bit. You will learn quickly.

Here's the trick - online postage through the USPS site is for priorty and express only. That's why the lowest option was $4.95. You cannot buy first class postage directly from USPS. You can go to the counter and pay, of course - but you don't get tracking info that way.

If you buy your postage through paypal, you CAN get first-class domestic postage, with tracking.

Thank you Bruce & Magichands!
This shipping thing was driving me nuts the other day!
When printing labels online do you need special paper or is regular paper okay?

I use regular paper and it works fine.

I would definitely recommend going for a padded envelope, if you can. A regular white envelope with an odd-shaped rigid item inside is likely to get missed and tossed in with the regular letters, and put through machinery that expects that it will be flat. I know this first-hand, because I tried to mail a letter and a thin USB drive the other day--and the paper parts came back in an envelope with a "gosh, we're sorry, this happens sometimes" note, but the USB drive is gone for good! (And I even bought postage at the counter, and the postal clerk didn't bat an eye.)

If you're going to be selling a lot of lip balm all by itself and shipping it, it might be worth investing in, say, a case of , or some small but mailable-size cardboard boxes, maybe?
