Teach Soap

Am I supposed to refrigerate the following oils: Palm, coconut, avacado, sweet almond oil? I froze my shea butter, am I supposed to do the same with pitachio?

I think as a general rule you slow down spoilage if you refrigerate oils...I just don't have the room to do so!!

Thanks Vinca. I'm using up my coconut & Palm in a timely manner, so I hope that won't be a problem. I'll freeze the pitachio butter just in case.

Palm, coconut and almond I don't freeze. They are sitting at room temp in my soaping room. My avocado is in the fridge. Shea and mango butters are in the freezer. I've never had pistachio. What do you use it for?

I got the pistachio because it was supposed to be skin friendly for us folks that breakout alot. So, I was planning someday to make some lotion

I've never heard of freezing butters. Does it become brittle when thawed? I guess a better question is does the consistency change?

Hi Clesha, it does get hard. I pull mine out and let it set for a bit, then cut some off, put it back in the fridge. I'm just a hobbyist and don't use up my oils that fast (except for coconut & palm) so to protect from spoilage I fridge or freeze.

That's good to know. I may give it a try if I can find the space.
