Does anybody else around here make their own toothpaste. I have been doing it for a couple years now almost and my dentist says whatever I am doing to keep it up bc my gums look AWESOME!
So here is my recipe, and I am wondering if anyone has any alternative recipes or suggestions for me. Basically whenever you mix baking soda with oil you get a salt, k? It has good abrasive properties for brushing the teeth, but it has to be flavored. So I add a bunch of Stevia, i don't think it is possible to use too much Stevia, and then I add a product I got from my holistic dentist called ORA, MD by The Mouth Doctor from
www.trustedhealthproducts.com/oramd for additional flavoring. The ingredients are it says, "100% Pure Botanical Oils of Almond, Spearmint and Peppermint." It really helps fine-tune the flavor on top of the Stevia, which does most of the work.
So use any oil you want that doesn't turn rancid at room temp that you want, like olive or sunflower. This isn't a cheap formula but at least I know what's in it. The Stevia is kind of expensive and I like to use high quality food-grade organic cold-pressed oils bc it is going in my mouth even tho I hope not to swallow it but sometimes stuff happens, right?
The problem is that when you get to the bottom there is sometimes a need to add more baking soda to thicken it up, but when you do that it becomes more salty and needs to be flavored again, which is kind of a pain in the butt to take out of the shower/bath and go into the kitchen and re-doctor the toothpaste.
So anyway, i just thought I would share this recipe bc I love it. But I would love to get some of ya'lls toothpaste recipes, too, if anybody wants to share, or have some ideas on how to thicken up the toothpaste slightly w/o adding more baking soda. Or chemicals. I'd rather do i tmy way than put any chemicals in my toothpaste. I got a sore in mouth once and added blue German chamomile and it worked beautifully. But I don't add EOs for no reason to my toothpaste, but i read that chamomile is particularly good for using in the mouth.
