Teach Soap

It finally happened guys! After months of blood (paper cuts), sweat (no sign of snow in WA) and tears (can't even begin to recall all those times) my Etsy shop finally opened! I was lucky enough to have a few people interested while I was building my stock up and got 3 orders in the last 24 hours! I still have to wait since Etsy has this holding payment policy but I'm 90% sure these guys will come through!

But I can't rely on friends and family forever, even if my mom loves 90% of the fragrances in my shop. Any advice on how to get more strangers to buy? I know a lot of ou guys either sell on Etsy or have businesses that are several years old. Any advice would help

Back when I was thinking of opening an Etsy shop (2010 or so) I spent an inordinate amount of time on the Etsy forums and learned a ton. They seemed to have changed the categories, but isn't there still a "Business Discussion" section for shop owners? Anyhow, there is all kinds (or used to be) of ideas, postings on "How I Did It" etc....on the forums. Lots of really helpful people lending support and how to specifically get more web traffic. Or have things changed? Or you've already exhausted that source?

Have you advertised via Reddit? It does have a place where Etsy shop owners can post links to shops.

I don't sell soap on Etsy. I sell handmade Mason jar items. I've been there a a year and a half and do fairly well. When I first started I didn't get any sales for about 2 months, now I have over 1400 sales. I think the real key to having your items come up in search is learning SEO. How to tag, title your items, having good photos, having a lot to choose from and adding items often. I also spend a lot of time in the forums and I really think that helps. The forums there are great for finding help! It really is a great community!
