Okay, so the application for a sales tax id# is in the mail, I'm working on getting some stock. First craft fair is in 7 weeks.
Any advice????

I'm also thinking about doing a website - good idea?

Liability insurance? What would I tell the agent I need to cover? (you'll have to forgive me, just had a 12 hr day at work, my mind isn't working any more tonight)

Something that I found helpful was doing a bit of prep for the craft fair. Picture how you want your table to look and if you have space set it up on your table at home. Experiment with the display pick out the table covers you will use and make sure they compliment your packaging. Adding height to your display also helps you get noticed and attracts the customers eyes to your products. Make a price list that is clear or label the products clearly. Customers really appreciate knowing the price without asking it increases their comfort level.

Make sure you have product available that the customers can handle and sniff, looks and smell are two of the biggest "hooks" in selling your product. Get comfortable talking about your products practice your sales pitch, be ready to explain any of the processes you use that might get asked about. The most comfortable you are talking about your products the better you will come across to your customers and the more sales success you will see. If you do CP soap be prepared to answer the concern about Lye that some customers may bring up. If you do MP be ready that some customers might be soap snobs. ( and don't let that get to you cause yes MP is "real" soap ).

Some customers may ask for a deal if they buy multiple items decide before you get to the show if you are willing to do something like that. Being caught off guard by this situation can make you more likely to "give away the farm". Making theses sort of deals or not making them which ever you choose isn't as important as knowing what you can and will do before the situation comes up so you can make a decision based on what is right for you not the emotion of the moment and the desire to make the sale. When ever there are customers around be standing up and engaging customers with a smile or a hi when they approach your table.

Be careful what claims you make for your products and enjoy the craft fair they can be a blast.

Much of this you may already know or have done but when I look back at my first craft fair these are something I wish I had thought about the first time.
