So I tried a new brand of makeup on Friday.
BAD IDEA.
My entire face, eyelids, everything, became red swollen, stinging and itchy.
I looked liked HELL.
Being a long weekend, there is no getting hold of the doctor...so I tried what I had at hand.
I tried Rx strength cortisone cream ( I know, but I was desperate) and it did nothing for me at all.
I tried soothing oils..jojoba, emu, shea butter(which usually works for me), but no help.

I finally went on Susan's blog and researched some of the more exotic oils, and cross referenced (means: go look in the frig) to stock on hand.

BORAGE OIL!!!! - Used straight...immediately took the sting away, and the next morning, my eyelids are still swollen red, but not as much and no stinging, and very little itch. Another application this morning, and I look tons better already - no longer like a burn survivor. Face is about 85% better, eyes about 70% in less than 24 hours.

whew!!!!!!!!!

Wow! That's quite a testimony! I love borage, meadowfoam, rosehip, and tea tree oils for things. I use clove oil for cystic acne and warts.

Glad you are okay, and you had something on hand that helped! Wish you could tell us the brand of makeup that did that to you. On the other hand, we all react so differently, it may not matter.

Sure, it was NYC.
Yeah, I know ...just a cheap drugstore brand. But it costs about the same (at least where I live) as L'Oreal, and they had some colours I wanted to try.
Lesson learned!

Oh, ouch! You had an experience! But so good that you found borage oil to be so helpful! I will have to look into that.

HoneyLady, what oil do you like to use on your face? I want to learn a little about face care, and it sounds like you have some experience.

Which oils work the best depends on your age, the type of skin, the season, humidity or heat and any sensitivities. I prefer jojoba myself as it's not greasy. Jojoba oil is technically a plant wax and is compatible with the structure of the skin.

I tried coconut oil on my face for a while, but it felt like it never really soaked in, and then I'd forget and touch my face, touch something else, and have grease spots everywhere. Right now I'm using Jojoba with a touch of Neem oil and a bit of Mango butter melted in, I really like it. It's still oily but not as much as the coconut. I use it by itself at night, and for daytime I made a colloidal oatmeal cream that I use a few minutes after the Jojoba mixture that seems to soak up the excess oils. I have Rosacea which tends to get a lot worse during cold winter months, and this mixture which I started using in the fall has really kept it at bay, and my skin looks great and doesn't itch.

Probably way too much information but I thought I'd share because for the first time in years I found something that worked well through the worst of the winter months.

Thanks, goodcleanfun! I seem to hear a lot of people singing the praises of jojoba oil and mango butter, so I need to try those! Meadowfoam and neem oil seem popular, too; what plants do those two oils come from?

Thanks again!
