So I'm in my greenhouse today and I reached over my two rosemary plants to remove a tomato plant. I swore my rosemary plant bit me. Almost instantly my skin bubbled up in a terrible rash. Thank goodness for my homemade soothing salve. Now this may seem stupid but I couldn't believe this plant did this so well I touched it again to make sure. Yes now I have 2 rashes. Time to re-home my lovely rosemary plants, can't risk using them in anything I'd use.

I looked it up and I guess it's rare but people can have this type of reaction to rosemary. Guess its good to have found out this way rather than having eaten it.

It's very possible. My daughter is allergic to lavender.

Galena, had you not done that second check I would have questioned if an insect had stung\bit you. Sorry about this! Too bad we are not just a little bit closer, I would gladly help you "get rid" of those rosemary plants. Hope you find a good home for them. Hey maybe you could trade them for some sage, that works well in balms and soap!

The more we're exposed to a substance, the more reactive we become. Have you eaten or used rosemary a lot in the past? Otherwise, I think people are allergic to more things than they realize. It took me half my life to realize I'm strongly allergic to FD&C Red 40, which is in practically everything from textbook covers to lots and lots of foods.

Actually I've never had fresh rosemary before. So I guess I've always been allergic. I'm not really surprised. When I weed my flower garden or mow the lawn I have to shower after because I get itchy and a rash on my arms and legs.
