If she was just there a day before they broke out, it would not have been from that visit, as the virus takes longer germinate. It could have been from the store or church or anywhere, so really, trying to figure it out now is a moot point. Just try to get through it without too many margaritas! Lol
As for suggestions to cut itching; Fill a bathtub with water and add 12 tea bags. Use chamomile tea for its anti-inflammatory properties. Then for the itching, use; Vicks VapoRub will replace the itching with a cool burn for fast temporary relief. After the burn subsides, wipe off the vaporub. The older children would probably be okay with this, while it may be too harsh for the very young. Of course you could always go chemical and use benadryl cream. They make an extra strength one that contains 2% Diphenhydromine Hydrochloride (most others contain 1%), that works very well on itching, but you'd have to see the age restrictions on the box to make sure all of your family could use it and how often. For a more natural product, tea tree EO is good for itching. You would need to verify the dilution rates for the various age groups you have, but it is a good one and the antibacterial/antiviral properties would also help to cleanse the areas. Normally I recommend jewelweed for itching (great for poison ivy), but it is too early to harvest it, so tea tree is my best recommendation besides the chemicals.
Whatever you do, good luck to you, and fast healing to the family!
ETA: oops, almost forgot, you can try making a thick paste from 3 teaspoons baking soda and 1 teaspoon water and apply it to the affected areas to take away itching. Works well for some, not so great for others, but worth a shot!
