So we are getting a black Newfoundland boy either this week or next week. We are still trying to work out pick up details with the breeder. We were initially going to adopt but could not find any purebreds in our state or the surrounding states that were up for adoption. We're wanting a newfoundland for their temperament and don't want to get a mix because we wanted to make sure we got a purebred so we don't get a mix of temperaments. (We rescued our puppy Koko (now 3) and we were told her mom was a purebred beagle who got pregnant with a stray. Well she was obviously bred with a yellow lab and now we have a 90lb beagle. LOL We love her to death and she is great with our kids but we want a dog that is known for a much calmer temperament. She is VERY hyper and excentric.) Anyway, we're having problems coming up with a name and our 3 year old Madi does not agree with any name we come up with. LOL She told me today she wanted his name to be "The Dogster". LOL I told her his name couldn't have the word dog in it and she crossed her arms and huffed. She is quite the character. So any name suggestions would be great. I'll post a picture when the breeder sends us a better one.

We always wait until after we've had a new pet for about a week to decide on a name (if they weren't already named before we got it). Perfect example - In November we got a new kitty from the Humane Society. Her name was Jules. After learning her personality, I renamed her PITA (Pain In The A**) because it fits her so much better than her previous name.

Almost forgot! Congrats on your new pup! Newfies are wonderful dogs. :D

Coolah wanted to let you know that she grew up with THREE Newfoundlands and your thread just brought a little tear to her eye remembering them!! One black one was called 'Rufus', but got nicknamed 'Bubba'.

New puppy.. :P Names are the hardest selection to do. I'd wait too, when I get the puupy, and see it's personality, then choose.
But here are some names that are in relation to either newfoundland or black.
Beothuk: but use only Beo
Santu: female native inhabitant of the area
Cabot: explorer
Bristol
Nyx: goddess of the night
Asteria: deity of the night.
What ever you choose the puppy won't care, as long as she knows that she will be loved. My miniature pinscher, Diesel, after 3yrs does not respond to his name, only to the word "cheese".

LMAO! That is too funny!!

Aww!! I hope it was a tear of happiness. And wow!! 3 of them?! I bet that was a lot of lovin you got! :D They are amazing dogs ad I am very excited to be bringing one home soon. Speaking of the nickname Bubba. I have a very fat (I tell him he's Momma's little fat man :D ), 3 legged kitty who's name is Mono but we call him Bubba all the time. Rufus is such a cute name for a dog. We are getting a boy cause my husband loves boys but a little part of me wishes we were getting a girl just so I could name her Nana after the Newfie from Peter Pan. :D

My BIL has an Abyssinian cat named Rufus (we secretly call him Doofus -the cat, not my BIL).

Maybe you can call your new pup "Papa" since Nana won't work.

Toni,
My bad. I thought/misread..you are getting a female pup. Disregard all my options except for Cabot. Come to think of I like Bently.

You could name him Josh, after the Newf that won Best in Show at Westminster in 2004.

Interestingly enough, the name "Joshua" means savior or deliverer - seems appropriate for a breed prone to rescuing people from drowning.

Is he black or a Landseer?

Congratulations!

Anita

HERE HE IS!!!!!!

by , on Flickr

He is sooooo sweet!!!! My friend and I took a road trip with my girls to go pick him up. We spent a total of 11 hours in my van so it was a long day. (We left at 4 this morning.) We spent time trying out names for him trying to see which one we liked best. We decided on Max which is short for Maximum Security. She is 5 1/2 months and too adorable!

So adorable! Love him! Our condo is a little small but when we get something bigger I have been wanting a Newfie for a long time now. =)

He/She is very cute! I thought you were going to say "short for Maximum Ride". [That is a character in a book about children with bird wings.] One place you said she and the other he, so which is it? Well, whatever gender, it is very cute and your daughter looks absolutely thrilled! Congrats!

I have a dog named Max, but that's short for Maxwell.
