Teach Soap

Well, instead of making soap this weekend (mine is on Wed./Thurs.), I decided to unmold the 5 batches made last week and cut them into loaves and let them cure a few days before cutting them into bars. I also decided to wrap the bars already made. That would be nearly 600, not including the soap balls.

Got the bars (not the balls) all wrapped AND labelled!

And then I decided to get the gingerbread cookies wrapped too!

Sorry about the size, but Photobucket doesn't seem to save my resizing. I tried to make it smaller. These are half the batch because I ran out of room in the kitchen for them.


Now if I could only get the Christmas presents wrapped . . . they're in hiding in the floor storage of my car, which my little girl doesn't know exists!

Yes, I mixed them. I cut them. I baked them. I decorated them. Usually I mix and cut them out in November and freeze them before baking them but this year the time passed too quickly with too much going on. Consequently, it all happened in one weekend. Yes, my hand hurt. But it is a good hurt when it's for the homeless kids. This is about all the Christmas they get.

Thanks! On to making the next 600 bars . . . well, actually, I'll be making more like 1800 + bars and balls of soap for that show in May I'm going to. Today I'm making soap balls.

What's a soap ball? Just round soap?

And wow - not only is that an amazing amount of yummy treats - that's a fantastc and sweet (pun) reason for doing it!

Yes, my soap balls are round balls of soap. I make them by taking the scraps from my soap bars. You know, the ends you slice off, the bar you cut a bit smaller because the corner was round, etc. Then I heat them in a porcelain bowl in the microwave, mix it up and use my meatballer to make the balls. It takes time because they have to be in the meat baller for a little while before unmolding them. It creates about a 2 oz. ball of soap and it's a great way to use up some of the scrap. I have things I do with what's left over from that, if any. I'm old school -- waste not, want not. I don't waste much of anything.
