Teach Soap

So what do you guys think of her recipe:

Canola oil 2222g

Castor 45g

Water 861g

Lye 288g

Blend with stick blender well, then pour into the crock pot to cook on low for 3-6 hours.

wait for it to cool down a bit, add FO, stir well and pour into your mold.

It seems like a SIMPLE soap recipe. May not have the extra butters and oils that make a nicer bar, but i'm sure it's still better than what you can find at Walmart.

With that much canola, it would probably get DOS, and it will most likey be fairly soft, too. I don't think I'd want to make it.

Why not just make a 75% Olive, 25% Cocount soap? You can get both at the grocery store and it make a great soap. I do this and superfat at 7%.

Canola is a VERY soft oil. I no longer use it as I got DOS with it.

I remember someone in another video saying that Nancy Today said DOS was just fine and didn't mean anything. It was just a "part of making soap". This video I was watching was on "when to bin a batch" she said to bin DOS soap and ignore what that crazy lady said. I don't know about you guys, but washing with rancid oil soap just seems, well, icky!

I had to watch, just to see what everyone was talking about..*sigh* I wish I hadn't. That's time I'll never get back, I don't even make CP soap and I was yelling at my computer and telling her how stupid she is.

Yeah, I found a recipe using 40% Canola and the soap is not only soft, but also is coming down with DOS. I made four batches with that recipe as my base before the DOS showed up. Using Canola oil is the biggest soaping mistake I've made so far *knocks on wood.*

Approx 1.50 into it and she says that because she has left over soap from her previous batches in her mixing bowl, that it will help to saponify the current mixture quicker. Say whaaaaaaaaaat?
