Teach Soap

Okay, I got my Soapmaker, got it installed, and have been playing around a bit. I've been ordering supplies, so as as they come in, I've been putting them into my inventory.

I understand the concept of having your inventory of soap linked to recipes on SM, but is there a way to input inventory of soap made before I got SM? Without linking it to a specific recipe?

I can always do some kind of spreadsheet, I guess, if SM doesn't have that kind of function.

Technically you have to link it to a recipe because you have to "Make Batch" to input your existing stock. You could always just creat a generic recipe called "Soap Stock" or something like that and add the stock using that recipe only. Just be sure that you "Uncheck All" at the top of the supplies inventory screen so it won't deduct the oils from you current supply.

I added the soaps I had before the software. I added the recipes and made them to get the actual soaps in "my products". Then looked at the amount of supplies that I had in the negative and brought them up to zero on hand by creating purchases for them because I did buy the supplies...THEN I started entering the supplies that I already had and had not used (had all my reciepts saved).

When I realize that I forgot to enter a supply ( see stack of reciepts on my desk), I pull that reciept out and go ahead and put it in and file it with my others. I have been so busy getting ready for my first market and the county fair that time to put everything in has been rare, and is something I should be doing now. LOL

I spent 20 years managing inventories and this one had a bit of a learning curve for me. But I know it can be a bit intimidating dealing with software programs

I'm hijacking this thread can this program be used for M&P too or just CP and HP? I research with no answers. I only make M&P. thanks and sorry

I think you should be able to use it for MP. Instead of base oils, you would have MP bases - clear, white, goat milk, etc. Then whenever you make a batch you would just input whatever base you're using, the FO, colorant, etc. and tell the program to "Make Batch". This will deduct the amount of your supplies from your inventory and give you a cost per batch.

you can use it for MP. You add your bases just like you do the other supplies. I created a category under additives just for my bases. When you make the recipes, you woiuld mark it as Non-soap...there is a note there for MP as well and go from there.
