I was on groupon and there is a deal for an Emson Hand Blender. The one I currently have was my mothers from about 10 years ago... Just thought I would share this if anyone is looking for one.

That looks interesting. I wonder though; it says the shaft is stainless steel, except it's white? If it's painted, the paint would react with lye.

The shaft is probably just covered by plastic. That is how my first SB was.

It says it is a SS blade, not the shaft. I am thinking that it is a hard plastic with the SS blade on the inside of it.

Mine is a 12 year old $10 plastic SB from Wal Mart. I love it, but the company stopped making them a few years ago.

Mine is plastic from Walmart and I've been using it for 2 years now and it still works great - lots better than the new stainless one I bought.

I use my stick blender to also make liquid soap. I don't know about the rest of you, but I can gurantee that any plastic would melt in my hot liquid soap.
