Teach Soap

So. I was on youtube watching some quality soap porn... and my freaking expensive computer DIED!!! This is a $6000 Alienware gaming system that Dell has already had to replace once. GRRRRRR. So I will still be around but probably not reply as much as it is harder to type on my ipad (or my husbands computer I am now finding out, his keyboard is off-center!). It is under a massive extended warranty so they are going to fix or replace it, but still!! GRRRR! My soap making software is on there! At least I have soapcalc and the BB lye calc at my disposal, and available on the ipad.

You'd think I was hard on computers right? Not so! My HP laptop lasted 10 years, with recalled parts in it! And my desktop is a 10 or 11 year old HP. I just have horrid luck with Dells.

Alienware systems can get hot. Did you have one CPU fan or more then one? That's too bad that it died.

Oh noes!! And it's not just a computer that dies when it's a gaming system either, it's a whole other level of PC! I feel your pain! Hope it get's fixed soon ...

I've never heard good things about Alienware. :/ Dell pc's so overpriced!

So jealous Gladly!!!! My husband would freak if I got a pink computer, he hates pink! It's my favorite colour though. My desktop is still in Canada and is stuck there, with everything else, until I get a green card. Maybe a year or two. My Alienware was a graduation present from my Grandparents, I love it, but wow its been a pain! Hope when they fix/replace it this time it will be a lot better. For the price of it, it should diagose and fix itself!!!

I won't buy another Dell-produced product. Alienware used to be freaking AWESOME until Dell bought them a few years back.

Back in the mid-90s, Dell desktops were great. I had one that lasted me 8 years, with proper maintenance and OS upgrades. Then in 2003, I bought a Dell laptop and I hadn't even had it 3 months when the hard drive died. Then 6 months later, the screen went out. Another 6-7 months and the screen went out AGAIN. Then 3 months later, the motherboard fried. So I splurged and bought another laptop from Cyber Power PC (which I have nothing against, but I probably won't buy another system from them though mine was great) and I bought a new desktop from Dell. Less than 2 months after getting the desktop, the DVD/CD drive stopped working correctly. I could get either video or sound, but not both at the same time. Piece of crap.

I am going on 3 years with my HP laptop and I love it, other than the fact that my daughter whacked the trackpad with a toy one day and now it will randomly go white screen and then I have to hard reboot it. Otherwise it is great. I just need to defrag more often and buy a new cooling pad (the fan on one side of my current one is dead).

However, with the kids, I will soon need to buy a desktop system. I will splurge on that one for gaming, as I'm a WoW player. I have D3 but I can't stand the controls. Click to move irritates the crap out of me, and having to hold down Shift so my caster doesn't move while attacking? A freaking nightmare Plus, I don't like that I can't change my camera angle. That's why I couldn't play Resident Evil console games because of the lack of changing the angle.

I love it! It has the lights and the gauges (temp etc) on the front, and I love that the ports are on the side because my dc sites near a doorway and people were always running into my headset and phone cords to the point that the port was bent and I had to hold my mouth right to get my headset to work properly. We actually had my pc all put together with this case on another site, but decided to wait for the new intel processors. By the time I ordered that site didn't have the pink case in stock anymore, so (after I cried about it) we bought all the parts from New Egg instead and put it together ourselves. Ended up saving a couple hundred dollars in the end too, so that was nice!

I'll be getting a new desktop soon enough. Probably from Ibuypower.com, its where we got my husband's laptop. It's a great system! If not there then it will be an HP. HP is going out of computers though so I'm not sure what to do there yet.

you can build your own for a lot less. My husband built both of our computers with gaming in mind. for about 1k (including operating system) he built a computer that in the stores would run about 3 times that amount. The best part is there is no pre-loaded software taking up space on the hard drive or running in the background without our knowledge. Everything on here we put here.

Its been too long since I took my computer hardware classes With two toddlers running around, its just simpler (and will probably end up cheaper due to broken parts) than trying to put the components together myself.

My husband is letting me use his old laptop until mine is fixed! Did I mention that my husband is awesome? 'Cause he is!

A major computer problem can be power fluctuations. Finally had some problems with my Alienware (pre-Dell and I love it). One of my husband's computer guys fixed it pretty easily and cheaply (mainly just wanted to game on it a couple days after fixing it!). He said that small variations damage it over time and that a good UPS would really extend it's life. Mine does run warm enough to keep a window cracked just for cooling. It is also dusty here so periodically blowing out the inside (gently) also helps.
