Teach Soap

It has been an incredible journey. I started off wanting to "make soap" as a way to help a friend make money. She never came on board but I acquired two very cool local-partner soapers. One I met on a forum such as this.

The on-line communities of soapers deserve ALL the credit for my success. I learned EVERYTHING online. My beginning soaps are very different from the soaps I make now. HOWEVER, making a couple dollars from making soap is not AS hard as some people try to make it out to be. And so far, it's just a couple dollars, LOL, but it's been the best hobby/profession a gal could hope to be a part of.

CONGRATS and Happy Anniversary Philly! Your note was inspiring... I keep hoping my talents will improve. I read this forum nearly every day. I am not looking into selling.. just want to make great soap and have fun. Creating something was always a thrill for me from young on. Keep on soaping!

One year I thought you knew that since you were a part of my welcoming party

I remember one popular newbie question was "how much can I make selling soap?".

for me, I did get my soaps into one major store, they sell about 20 of my bars every two weeks, so I pick up $50 every two weeks or $100 a month. That covers about 1/2 of my material cost. I sell at a flea market every weekend and make about $200 a weekend or $800 a month.

My insurance for the year cost me $300. I also sell the soap of another soaper who is more technically orientated and we did a free festival hosted by the storethat sells my soap and between 11am and 5pm, we both had two customers each who recognized our soap as something they'd brought previously and liked. So it was like being a mini-rockstar and getting recognized.

I plan to join the soapers guild and I finished writing the copy for my etsy site and am just waiting on the pictures of my soap my son promised to do.
I'll also have my first professional review soon, as a reporter picked up three of my soaps at the festival and promised to do a story.

That's wonderful, Phillysoap. I honestly was thinking of some of your prior posts this past week, remembering how hard at work you were with your sales. It obviously is paying off, and you're enjoying it, which makes it all the more worthwhile. Can't wait to see some of your pictures. Congratulations.
